264,878. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hull, A. W.). Jan. 23, 1926, [Convention date]. Piezo-electric crystals. - To facilitate the preparation of a quartz or other piezo-electric crystal designed to oscillate at a particular frequency, the native crystal is first ground to a dimension slightly smaller than that corresponding to the desired frequency, and a conductive coating of platinum, silver, copper, &c. is then deposited, preferably at a temperature of 100‹ C., by evaporation in vacuo or by sputtering the metal in a gas. The exact frequency required is then attained by removing a part of the deposited coating by scraping.
