Abstract

264,650. Asquith (1920), Ltd., W., Feather, G., and Howden, P. Jan. 6, 1926. Drilling - machines. - In radial-arm drilling- machines having means for simultaneously locking any or all of the drill spindle adjustments automatically when the feed is put into operation, a control member is provided which, on being actuated, brings electrical or electrical and mechanical means into gear for effecting the locking or unlocking adjustments by power and may also put the power feed into operation. A two-way switch is provided for starting an electric motor which actuates the locking apparatus, and a shaft e<1> rotated by the motor carries a contact sleeve e<2>, which, after the locking or unlocking has become effective, breaks the motor circuit through two of the three contacts e<3> - - e<5> thus stopping the motor and simultaneously setting the other two contacts so that the motor will start again in the reverse direction when the two-way switch is again operated. The switch may be operated by the hand lever which locks the saddle to the radial-arm or independently, and the power feed may be applied as described in Specification 255,506. A coil may be energized by the switch and the contact sleeve e' to actuate a switch for closing the motor circuit. The shaft e<1>, which is worm-driven from the motor, actuates known means for locking the radial-arm sleeve to the pillar through crank and link mechanism.
