Abstract

264,465. Compagnie d'Applications Mecaniques. Jan. 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Bearings. - An apparatus for spot welding the two parts 6, 7 of a sheet metal cage for ball bearings consists of a base 1 and a cap 11 clamped together with their central bosses 2, 12 entering the bore of the inner race 4 of the bearing, the base having a rim 9 provided at intervals with seats 10 arranged round the boss for engaging the flat parts 8 of the cage between the sockets for the balls, and the cap having registering therewith openings 14 through which the welding tool may be passed. The cap has a rim 13 which extends into the space between the inner and outer races 4, 5, and which may be shaped to accommodate the pockets and thus centre the cage. The cap and base are prevented from relative rotation by a pin 15. The seats 10 may be arranged on the cap, and the holes in the base which may be placed on a set of stationary welding tools. By use of the apparatus described the clear space between the pockets may be reduced as compared with a riveted cage and a larger number of balls may consequently be used.
