Abstract

264,069. Vadasz, N., and Vadasz, S. Dec. 7, 1925. Brakes, arragement of; speed, regulating; soundboxes, mounting. - A gramophone of small or pocket size, in which the soundbox is carried by a pivoted rod or system of rods, is fitted with a brake which is operatively connected to the rod or system of rods, so that manual movement of the latter causes the brake to be applied or withdrawn. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a lever 27, pivoted at 26 and carrying a brake pad 28 adapted to engage with a drum 19<x> on the turntable spindle, is connected by a stiff spring 25 to an arm 24 which is integral with an arm 21. This arm is mounted by means of a friction-tight pivot 20 on the machine casing, and carries a telescopie pivoted rod 22 supporting the sound-box 23. The brake is operated by movement of the arm 21 in either direction. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the arm 21. is provided with bearings for a screwed spindle 29<1>, the inner end of which contacts with one end of a link 25<1> which is jointed to the brake-arm 27 and passes through a member 24<1> freely mounted on the pivot 20. This arrangement enables the speed of the machine to be regulated by adjustment of the spindle 29<1>. A further modification is described, in which the sound-box is so mounted on a, system of pivoted rods that when in the playing position it lies substantially horizontally, and it may be moved into or out of the operative position by swinging the arm which directly supports it about an horizontal axis. Such swinging movement causes the brake to be applied or retracted.
