Abstract

262,799. Freeman Co., L. G., (Assignees of Freeman, L. G., and Freeman, B. W.). Dec. 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Treeing and ironing; uppers, machines for.- Relates to machines for shaping the rear and sides of the heel portions of boots and shoes. A number of electrically-heated forms are mounted on a rotatable turret, and each is provided with a clamping-strap for co-operation with the form. The turret is rotated intermittently by the operator, and, as each form reaches the operator's position, a treated shoe is removed. a fresh shoe positioned over the form and the clamping-strap tightened over the work, this pressure being maintained while the form performs the complete rotation. The turret comprises a number of forms 7, Fig. 1, projecting from a head rotating on a central bearing carried by a sleeve 2. This sleeve is vertically adjustable, to suit the height of the operator, clamping bolts 3 securing it in a split column 1. Each form is heated by an electric resistance 8 supplied with current by rings rotating with the turret co-operating with fixed brushes, a rheostat handle 60, switch 62 and lamp 64 being provided in the circuit. The clamping means comprise an internal liner 68, Fig. 7, and rubber pads 71 mounted on a strap 26 clamped at 27 to a pivot 28, Fig. 5, on an arm 17, Figs. 1 and 3. This arm is resiliently connected, by a spring 23, to a handle 18, both being pivoted at 15 to an arm 12 adjustable radially of the turret, a key 13 and slot 10 co-operating with a bolt 11 in maintaining alignment. To retain the clamping-strap in tensioned condition, the arm 12 carries an arcshaped member 32 passing through a slot in a locking bar 33 pivoted at 34 to the handle 18 and provided with friction pins 35 normally gripping the member 32 under the thrust of a spring 39. when it is desired to release the strap a handle 36 pivoted to the arm 18 at 37 is pressed towards the arm, when a lug 38 shifts the locking bar to release the grip. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the subjectmatter of Specification 276,371. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
