Abstract
262,743. Soc. du Latex. Dec. 11, 1925, [Convention date]. Fabrics composed of threads united by adhesives; coating materials in long lengths.-In making fabrics, particularly for tyres, composed of threads united by adhesives, the threads are fed to a coating apparatus in a number of layers passed through a reed in such a manner that one thread from each of the layers lies between the same two dents of the reed, the size and number of the dents being determined by the diameter of the thread and width of the fabric. The apparatus comprises a reed 2, Fig. 1, by which the threads 3 are separated into groups or sheets in which the threads lie in a vertical plane. These groups are then passed to a horizontal cylinder 10 upon which they are juxtaposed. Thence the web passes over a series of heated cylinders 11 and to impregnating rollers 4 in a bath of latex or aqueous suspension of rubber. After impregnation, the web passes over a drum 6 which may be heated, and then between drawing rollers 7, 7. When rubber dissolved in benzine or other solvent is used, it is introduced between the cylinders 8, 9 and 4, 12, Fig. 2, and the web is spread out on a suspension device to dry. A surface coating of rubber may then be given.
