Abstract

Methods for calculating the accumulated damage on a component of an aircraft, comprise either 1) determining the weight of the aircraft at a predetermined point of a flight cycle; 2) obtaining manoeuvring data indicative of manoeuvres of the aircraft during a flight cycle; or 3) measuring load on the component of the aircraft during a flight cycle. The method further comprises calculating, based on information obtained, a calculated damage inflicted on the component during the flight cycle and obtaining historic data indicating the damage inflicted on the component before the flight cycle. From these the accumulated damage of the component is calculated, based on the calculated damage inflicted on the component during the flight cycle and the historic data. The weight can be based on the weight of the aircraft when it is empty, the weight of the cargo load at a predetermined point, a number of passengers at the predetermined point and/or a quantity of fuel at the predetermined point. The manoeuvring data can comprise a number of left/right turns performed, and/or a number of braking/accelerating events experienced by the aircraft.
