Abstract

A swash plate comprising an outer yoke, a ball race, and an inner angular boss. The outer diameter of the ball race fits into the yoke via a frictional fitting; and the angular boss fits into the ball race via a frictional fitting, or is shrunk and press-fitted into the ball race. A drive shaft can be attached to the inner bush via spot welding, soldering, or an adhesive, such that back-and-forth oscillation of the outer yoke converts horizontal movement into a rotational force that acts on the inner bush, thereby causing the drive shaft to rotate.

Description

Description
See the attached diagrams.
Figl. This shows a complete assembled mechanism.
Fig2. This shows an exploded view of the three component parts The mechanism described consists of only 3 essential elements.
Fig 2: C: An outer yoke which when oscillated back and forth converts a horizontal movement into a rotational force on the inner bush. The yoke is made to be a friction fit to the outer diameter of the ball race. To the left and right are shown for fixing screws securing swivel bearings to horizontal connecting rods or the connecting rods which are secured to a slide fixture for the same purpose.
B: A suitable ball-race chosen to carry the workload desired. The inner diameter is chosen to accommodate the inner angular boss.
Note Only single ball races can be utilised and not needle-roller bearings. Compression or thrust-roller bearings may be utilised.
A: An inner angular boss. Consists of a boss with an outer diameter which is a friction fit or shrunk and press fitted into the ball-race.
The entire mechanism when assembled onto a drive shaft implements a swash plate drive mechanism. This inner bush is attached to a drive shaft by conventional engineering means such as (keyway, spot weld, interference fit, solder, press-fit or adhesive for example) and is connected to the horizontal drive by the outside of the yoke.

Claims (4)

  1. Claims: 1 Consisting of only 3 parts to create a swash plate drive drastically reduces the cost of manufacture.
  2. 2 When used to connect a bottom end (i.e. crank shaft and big end bearing) no special tooling and casting, grinding and boring are required. Consequently, the addition of extra pistons and bottom end bearings is simplified as a single drive shaft is simply extended to incorporate the additional pistons.
  3. 3 The simple design has less out of balance masses reducing vibration in the mechanism.
  4. 4 Servicing cost is minimised as the single bearing can be simply pressed off and replaced.
