Abstract
261,998. Jackson, L. Mellersh-, (Hartford-Empire Co.). May 26, 1926. Delivering molten metal.-Relates to a feeder of the reciprocating-plunger type and particularly to such a feeder in which the plunger, or a discharge-controlling tube surrounding the plunger, is rotated to stir the glass. According to the invention, the device for adjusting the position of the rotating member relatively to the discharge outlet is arranged to stop the rotation when the member approaches the outlet, in order to prevent abrasion between the member and the wall of the outlet. In the construction shown, a plunger 12 reciprocates above an outlet 11 in a forebearth 10, and it is surrounded by a tube 14 for controlling the flow of glass to the outlet. The tube is rotated to stir the glass, and its supporting bracket 15 is provided with an arm 41 carrying an adjustable tripping-bolt 40. The tube can be adjusted in position above the outlet by a screw, and can be brought down on to the outlet to stop the flow of glass. As its lower edge approaches the wall of the outlet, the bolt 40 trips a contact member 37 and opens the circuit of the motor 29 that rotates the tube. A spring 42 closes the contact 37 when the tube is raised again.
