Abstract

An interdental cleaning aid comprising a handle 1 having two perpendicularly protruding rods or prongs 4, 5 defining a gap. Across this gap, attached to the rods extends a filament comprising a length of dental floss 3 attached to a brush part 2, the brush part having bristles that extend outward perpendicularly from the filament through 360 degrees.

Interdental Flossbrush The present invention relates generally to the field of oral health and hygiene aids. The present invention relates specifically to interdental cleaning aids.

AIMS

Provide an alternative option for effective interdental cleaning. Provide a device that means the general public can more easily prevent dental disease. The device provides a solution to the above problems as it allows for the floss portion to be inserted between teeth and then the brush portion to be guided and drawn into the space, allowing for effective cleaning thus producing the desired effect of inserting interdental brushes into the spaces between teeth

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

Current interdental cleaning aids are usually only floss or only interdental brushes. Interdental brushes are very technique sensitive and are difficult to insert further back in the mouth. Brushes often bend on entry between teeth and cannot be inserted into the space as desired. Interdental flossers similar to this product already exist however they only provide the ability to use floss interdentally which is not as effective at cleaning as interdental brushes. Gum disease and dental decay regularly arises through improper cleaning of these areas. Therefore a solution is required to allow interdental brushes to be easily inserted between harder to reach teeth at the back of the mouth as floss alone is not effective in cleaning these areas. The cross rod consists of a floss/string/silk portion connected to a brush portion in which the brush bristles extend outwards at 90 degrees to the center to achieve a 360 coverage with reference to the center.

The key is relevant to all figures and the numbering remains consistent throughout. Figure 1 shows a front on view of the invention where the handle portion (1) has two projections. The floss connected end rod (4) and the brush connected end rod (5). Between these rods (4) and (5) extends a cross rod made up of components brush portion; join of brush and floss and floss portion. 2,6 and 3 respectively. This cross rod is best illustrated in figure 3. Figure 2 is there as when combined with figures 1 and 3 it illustrates the 360 degree extension of the brush bristles. The handle portion 1, is joined with portions 4 and 5. They are named separately to illustrate their importance in the design.

1. CLAIMSClaim 1: The combination of a brush and floss on the cross rod of the invention is central to the uniqueness of the product. No other invention may use this connection of floss and brush even with a differently designed handle.
