Abstract

261,634. Aughtie, H., and Goldsmith, R. L. G. June 26, 1926. Catch gear of mine-cage type. -SafetyÀ gear for supporting a mine cage in the event of an overwind and failure of the detaching hook to engage the catch girders, applicable also to inclined haulage ways, comprises pivoted catches projecting into the cage well, the operative catches being held in the active position by the succeeding catches. The catches 2 are mounted on pivots 3 in the head frame 1 and have a projecting end 4 normally projecting into the well and a lower end 5 abutting against a stop 7. In operation the cage hoop 6 rides past the lowest set of catches by tilting them to the inoperative position and then similarly tilts the next set of catches, the lower ends of which, as shown in dotted lines, strike the catches beneath them and so positively force them into the operative position. As the cage rises further, successive sets of catches are acted on so that the possible fall of the cage is limited to the distance between adjacent sets of catches.
