Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a clamping device comprising: an elongate body and a first damp located at or proximate a first end of the body; and a second clamp located at or proximate a second end of the body; wherein the first damp is adapted to damp against a first item arranged perpendicular to the body and the second clamp is adapted to damp over a second item arranged coaxial the body.
In this way the device of the present invention enables a user to damp onto an elongate first item such as a rafter and hold a second elongate item, such as a beam, perpendicular to the first item in the second damp, thereby enabling easier fixing of the items together for example timber for flooring or roofing.
In some embodiments the device may be arranged or adapted to allow movement of a clamp towards and away from the other damp along the body, for example movement of the first clamp along the body towards and away from the second damp, or viceversa. It may be envisaged for example that one or more of the clamps are arranged to slide along the body, or it may be envisaged that part or all of the body may be telescopic.
In some embodiments the second clamp includes a housing and one or more jaws moveable relative to the housing. Such housing may be envisaged to provide a clamp housing to act as a datum or holder for damp jaws, such that the housing may be 35 moved independently of said jaws.
In some embodiments one or more of the damps comprise resiliently deformable material, which may provide jaws or clamp pads which are arranged to contact the items without damage and/or progressively.
In some embodiments the second damp comprises a spring bias closure. In this way it may be envisaged that the second clamp may provide an automatic closure onto and over the second item.
In some embodiments the second clamp comprises one or more roller jaws. Such 10 roller jaws may be envisaged to pnivide a means of gripping the second item without damage, and enabling movement of the second item and/or the second damp.
In some embodiments the second damp comprises two roller jaws arranged orthogonal the body. In this way the jaws may roll along the item sides.
In some embodiments the roller jaws are arranged to move from a first position closer to the body to a second position spaced further from the body, for example so as to allow for lateral widening and narrowing of the jaws onto a alder or narrower item as required.
In some embodiments such movement may be controlled by handles, which handles may extend from the jaws.
In some embodiments the second damp comprises one or more roller jaws rotatable 25 about an eccentric axis orthogonal the body.
Some embodiments comprise a trigger mechanism to move a clamp along the body, such that a trigger is pulled to release the mechanism and enable travel of one or more damps Some embodiments m ay therefore comprise a spring release mechanism, for travel of one or more clamps along the body.
In some embodiments the first clamp comprises a perforated jaw. The perforated jaw 35 may provide a means for the clamp to clamp onto the first item and permit working of the item. For example such that a user can screw through the first item into the end of the second item.
In some embodiments the first clamp comprises a U shaped jaw extending orthogonally away from the body. Such U shape may advantageously thereby enable screwing central to the jaw, and in line with body and the second item in use.
Some embodiments comprise a pivoting second clamp, adapted to pivot in respect of the body. The pivot may be envisaged to be provided in or on the body such that the second jaw may be angled with respect to an molts defined along the body, thereby enabling clamping of a second item at an angle to the first item.
tool holder comprising a body (20), the two arms (21,22) having, and a pair of followers (23, 24), with said arms (21,22) by means of axes of rotation (232, 242) for damping an object (31) are pivotally connected.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only 15 and with reference to the Figures in which:
Brief Description of Figures
Figure 1 shows an isometric view of an embodiment of the device according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows a reverse isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 shows an exploded isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1; Figure 4 shows a reverse exploded isometric view of the embodiment of the device 30 shown in Agure 1; And Figure 5 shows an isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1 35 in use on timber items.
Detailed Descdolion of Figures With reference to the figures there is shown an embodiment of a clamping device generally comprising: an elongate body 3; and a first clamp 1 located at or proximate a first end of the body; and a second clamp 2 located at or proximate a second end of the body; wherein the first clamp 1 is adapted to clamp against a first item 100 arranged perpendicular to the body and the second damp 2 is adapted to clamp over a second item 101 arranged coaxial the body.
With particular reference to the pictured embodiment the embodiment comprises an 10 elongate body provided by a steel rod. The first clamp comprises a single jaw 13, which is U shaped.
The jaw is located slidably on the rod, wherein a trigger mechanism is used to release a grip of the jaw on the rod. Said bigger mechanism is sprung with a spring 11, whereby the user pushes the trigger 12 against a handle to release the spring and the grip. The trigger mechanism is arranged to advance the jaw along the body towards the second clamp at the body's distal end.
The mechanism further includes a release tab 10, so as to release the grip and allow 20 free sliding away from the second jaw, in a manner known in the art.
The second clamp 2 is located at the distal end of the body and indudes a housing 5 providing a datum, holder or reference point, which holds two roller jaws 4. The housing has an open top side to allow entry of the second item between the jaws.
Such jaws extend vertically to either side of the housing, or second item in use.
The jaws 4 move lateraNy in the housing towards and away from the second item 101, so as to grip the second item's side as required. The housing has a top face and two 30 sides. The top face is discontinuous.
The jaws are on spindles 6 which spindles move in arced slots 8 in the housing. The spindles are offset the centre of the rollers, which are cylindrical and covered in resiliently deformable material, such as rubber fins.
The bottom face of the housing has two handles 9 each extending from the spindles substantially axial the body. These handles may be used to move one or more of the roller jaws.
The spindles are connected to each other by an extension spring 7, so as to bias the jaws to closure.
The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing 10 from the scope of invention as defined by the claims, in particular but not solely *combination of features of descnbed embodiments.
