Abstract

Connecting uppers to insoles and soles.- Welted boots and shoes are provided with an insole formed of two layers or plies a, b of leather, and an, intermediate layer or ply c, of cotton or other fabric impregnated with a solution of balata, guttapercha or the like. The two leather layers and intermediate layers are of the same size and solutioned together, and then secured to the boot or shoe upper and welt strap by stitching, which passes through the welt strap g, through the upper e and through the lower layer b only, which is beaded at d, where such is provided being sewn between the boot or shoe upper and the lower layer by means of the stitching f. The outsole j may be secured in the usual manner, but preferably only the through middle h, or through middle and half middle i where both are provided, is sewn to the welt strap by stitching k. The outsole is not secured by stitching but is solutioned to the middle sole.
