This embodiment is described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the disclosure, and it is to be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and that changes may be made without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. The following description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense.
[0022] Fig. 1 shows a schematic top view of a motor vehicle 10 comprising a mounting device 12 according to an embodiment. Furthermore, Fig. 1 shows a storage compartment 14 and a user 16, wherein the user 16 is wearing head mounted display 18. Storage compartment 14 is shown as an arm rest only as a non-limiting example of the shape, size and location of a storage compartment for the head mounted display 18. Such an arm rest or storage compartment 14 can be used in any location in the vehicle, properly sized, that is convenient to at least one user 16 in any seat of the vehicle. In the enlarged view of the mounting device 12 in Fig. 1, the mounting device 12 is shown in a side perspective view. The mounting device 12 is further configured for mounting the head mounted display 18 inside of the motor vehicle 10, wherein the mounting device 12 comprises a holding element 20 for removable holding the head mounted display 18, and a docking element 22 for docking the mounting device 12 at a component of the motor vehicle 10. The docking element 22 is configured for docking the mounting device 12 at the storage compartment 14 of the motor vehicle 10 as the component.
[0023] Furthermore, Fig. 1 shows, according to an embodiment, that the holding element 20 is additionally configured for holding a smartphone 24 or the head mounted display 18. Furthermore, the holding element 20 may comprise a charging surface 26 for wirelessly charging the head mounted display 18 and/or the smartphone 24.
[0024] In an embodiment, the mounting device 12 is provided as a three-dimensional (3D) printed mounting device 12.
[0025] In particular, Fig. 1 shows that the user 16 may bring a head mounted augmented reality device or a virtual reality device which may correspond to the head mounted display 18 to the motor vehicle 10, wherein the head mounted display 18 needs a place for mounting and a source to charge. The head mounted augmented reality device may also be referred to as a headset or headsets. If the user 16 left the headset(s) lying haphazardly in the motor vehicle 10 anywhere on seats of the vehicle, the head mounted display 18 may potentially cause injuries to passengers. Therefore, according to an embodiment, the head mounted display 18 may be integrated advantageously into the motor vehicle 10 and also may be charged wirelessly by the mounting device 12. In the case of a short service of the motor vehicle 10, it can further log the user out 16 from the display 18 based on trip details.
[0026] For example, the storage compartment 14 is used as a dock to hold the head mounted display 18 and may allow to charge them when not in use. The mounting device 12 may be a 3D printed mounting device 12 which can be customized based on the space of the storage compartment 14 in the motor vehicle 10, the head mounted display 18 and generic phones, like the smartphone 24.
[0027] In particular, the mounting device 12 comprises at least a case which is 3D printed based on dimensions of the phone and the head mounted display 18, wherein the case corresponds to the holding element 20. Furthermore, the wireless charging surface 26 is added onto the base of the cavity. When not in use, a cover of the storage compartment 14 may be used to close the space.
[0028] A customer application is also created on the smartphone 24 which allows the user 16 to log onto entertainment options of their choice, and, synchronized with the trip detail mirroring notifications from a user mobile or smartphone, may inform them in the head mounted display 18 that they are reaching their destination. In a shared car service scenario, the application may also log the user 16 out of the head mounted display 18 by synchronizing with the trip details to protect the privacy of the user 16.
[0029] Therefore, the head mounted display 18 is easy to physically reach for the user 16 and the holding element 20 builds a dedicated space to stow away the display 16 when not in use. The headset charges like a phone, which has a wireless charger below. A 3D printed case is used for the storage compartment for docking and can be used for different headset types. Furthermore, in shared scenarios, the user 16 is logged off automatically when a trip ends.
