Description

IMPROVED CONVEYOR ASSEMBLY
Object of the Invention This invention relates generally to a conveyor assembly, widely used for moving materials between two fixed workstations and particularly, to an improved swing or foldable conveyor assembly for use in transferring and stockpiling feed or aggregate material in a wash plant.
Backaround to the Invention
This application derives priority from the United Kingdom patent application number 2103537.32, titled "Mobile Wash Plant" and filed on 15th March 2021 in the name of Tyrone International Limited.
The said priority application relates to a fully functional, tracked, mobile wash plant or apparatus specifically designed to alleviate the drawbacks of static wash plants. The tracked mobile wash plant thus includes various components like log washer, vibrating screens, sand plant, conveyors, cyclone towers and sump tank etc. on a single mobile chassis. Such an arrangement helps to achieve full mobility of the setup, has much quicker speed of installation and the ability to move and transport the plant easily. It is also more economical to install and operate than conventional static plants and does not require prior planning permission.
As also indicated in the specification of the priority application, the various components comprising the tracked mobile wash plant can be aggregated to form the mobile wash plant unit as a whole as well as can be segregated from one another and exist as individual units, while still retaining the novel and inventive aspect within each component along with the associated benefits of the core invention.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a component of the tracked mobile wash plant, i.e., an improved conveyor assembly capable of swinging and folding back on itself to facilitate its easy transport as an independent unit as well as to facilitate easy transport of the entire wash plant when the conveyor forms a part of the same.
Without compromising with the scope, the improved swing conveyor can be fitted on a static wash plant also, in addition to a mobile wash plant.
Summary of the Invention
Conveyors play a crucial role in any mining, aggregates or industrial operation. Their primary function is conveying of materials with the help of movement of some components of the equipment, be it an aggregate wash equipment or wash plant or other industrial equipment such that the equipment as a whole does not move.
Conveyors normally consist of a frame which supports rollers, wheels, buckets or belt upon which materials move from one place to another. They can be powered by a motor, gravity or manually. There are several types of conveyors and conveyor systems including belt conveyors, chain conveyors, haulage conveyors, cable conveyors, bucket conveyors, roller conveyors, screw conveyors, pneumatic conveyors and hydraulic conveyors.
Within the quarrying industry, mobile conveyors offer an efficient, reliable and robust material-handling solution that reduces the operator's dependency on haul trucks or wheel loaders, whilst offering a reduction in downtime and a longer equipment lifespan.
Typically, the conveyors used of stockpiling or transfer of materials can be of different widths and lengths, depending upon the differences in discharge height and transfer length requirements, the condition of terrain, the availability of power, the frequency of repositioning, throughput and economical factor as well.
In one aspect of the present invention, an improved conveyor assembly is provided including: an extended conveyor for receiving the feed; two conveyor pivot points on either side of the conveyor assembly for pivoting the conveyor with the screen frame of a wash plant; two conveyor support arms extending from the said pivot points for supporting the conveyor, rollers or sliders on either side of the conveyor assembly including guide channels along which the conveyor slides; a hydraulic control bank including a hydraulic control ram for swinging or folding the conveyor; and multiple safety pins for securing the conveyor either in an extended working position or in a folded or retracted transport position.
Preferably, there are four safety pins, two each at respective locations on either side of the conveyor assembly for securing the conveyor either in an extended working position or in a folded or retracted transport position respectively.
Please let us have some more preferred features of the conveyor assembly per se to include here.
Advantageously, the conveyor is capable of swinging as well as folding about the pivot points, thereby resulting in a transition of the conveyor assembly from an extended working position to a folded or retracted transport position.
Advantageously, the swing action of the conveyor creates a space within the chassis of a wash plant so that, if required, other assemblies can be integrated within that space for transportation purposes along with ensuring that the conveyor is folded compactly to substantially reduce the overall length of a washing and screening apparatus or wash plant of which the conveyor forms a part.
The said space is created when the extended part of the conveyor starts to swing and fold or retract back on itself while simultaneously pulling the tail end of the conveyor along its chassis away from the screen frame of a wash plant, said chassis including the roller and guide channels forming a part of the conveyor assembly.
In another aspect of the invention, a method for transitioning of the conveyor from an extended working position to a folded or retracted transport position is provided, said method comprising the following steps: a) removing the two safety pins from the two prop legs at respective position on either side of the conveyor assembly, followed by activation of the hydraulic ram by selecting appropriate lever on the hydraulic control bank; b) sliding or rolling down of the tail end of the conveyor along the roller and the guide channels on either side of the conveyor assembly consequent to the extension of the activated hydraulic ram; c) swinging/rotating and folding of the conveyor around the pivot points on either side of the conveyor assembly followed by securing the folded conveyor by re-inserting the two safety pins in the two prop legs at the other respective position on either side of the conveyor assembly, such that the assembly assumes a folded or retracted transport position.
The scope of the present invention is not limited to just the preferred embodiments but includes all the plausible variants concerning the assembly and operating mechanism of different parts of the conveyor assembly.
Brief Description of Drawings
Figure 1 represents a perspective isometric view of the improved conveyor assembly according to the invention in a working position, in conjunction to a vibrating screen of a wash plant, Figure 2 represents a perspective isometric view of the improved conveyor assembly in a working position, in conjunction to a vibrating screen of a wash plant but with the screen frame removed to display internal view; Figure 3 represents a side view of the improved conveyor assembly in a working position; Figure 4 represents an isometric view of an initial stage in the transition of the improved conveyor assembly from a working position to a transport position, wherein the conveyor begins to swing about the pivot points of either side of the assembly; Figure 5 represents an isometric view of a later stage in the transition of the improved conveyor assembly from a working position to a transport position, wherein the conveyor begins to fold back on itself; and Figure 6 represents an isometric view of isolated improved conveyor assembly in a working position.
Detailed Description
The invention will hereafter be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show an improved conveyor assembly by way of examples only.
Referring to Figure 1, an improved conveyor assembly comprises an extended conveyor 1 for receiving the feed; two conveyor pivot points 5 on either side of the conveyor assembly for pivoting the conveyor with the screen frame of a wash plant; two conveyor support arms 13 extending from the said pivot points 5 for supporting the conveyor 1; rollers or sliders 12 on either side of the conveyor assembly including guide channels 9 along which the conveyor 1 slides; a hydraulic control bank 11 including a hydraulic control ram 3 for swinging or folding the conveyor 1; and four safety pins 2, two each at locations 7 and 8 on either side of the conveyor assembly for securing the conveyor 1 in an extended working position and in a folded or retracted transport position respectively.
The improved conveyor assembly is capable of being retracted from an extended working position to a folded or retracted transport position. A method resulting in such a transition comprises the following steps: a) removing the two safety pins 2 from the two prop legs 3 at respective position 7 on either side of the conveyor assembly, followed by activation of the hydraulic ram 3 by selecting appropriate lever on the hydraulic control bank 11; b) sliding or rolling down of the tail end of the conveyor 1 along the roller 12 and the guide channels 9 on either side of the conveyor assembly consequent to the extension of the activated hydraulic ram 3; c) swinging/rotating and folding of the conveyor 1 around the pivot points 5 on either side of the conveyor assembly followed by securing the folded conveyor 1 by re-inserting the two safety pins 2 in the two prop legs 3 at the other respective position 8 on either side of the conveyor assembly, such that the assembly assumes a folded or retracted transport position.
A space is created as the extended part of the conveyor 1 starts to swing/rotate and fold or retract back on itself while simultaneously pulling the tail end of the conveyor 1 along its chassis, said chassis including the roller 12 and the guide channels 9 forming a part of the conveyor assembly. This space offers a significant advantage whereby other assemblies can be integrated with the conveyor assembly for transportation purposes as well as it also ensures that the conveyor 1 is folded very compactly so as to effectively shorten the length of the assembly either being used as an independent unit or when used as a part of a wash plant.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details described herein, which are given by way of examples only and various modifications and alterations are possible without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
