Description
DESCRIPTION
CONVERSION OF 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON TOILET TO 'SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON TOILET THERE ARE TOILETS IN THE MARKET PLACE WHERE THE FLUSHING MECHANISM IS STARTED BY INSTIGATING A SYPHONING MECHANISM USING A FLUSH HANDLE.
THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF FLUSHING MECHANISMS; 1. 'SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON THESE TOILETS ARE CONFIGURED TO CREATE AN 'EXTENDED' FLUSH OF WATER WHEN THE TOILET HANDLE IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED.
2. 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON THESE TOILETS ARE CONFIGURED TO CREATE AN 'EXTENDED' FLUSH OF WATER WHEN THE TOILET HANDLE IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED...
AND
A 'REDUCED' FLUSH WHEN THE TOILET HANDLE IS DEPRESSED AND HELD IN THE DEPRESSED POSITION.
THE INTRODUCTION OF SUCH 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON DEVICES WAS INSTIGATED AS A WATER SAVING INITIATIVE.
THE CONFIGURATION OF SUCH A 'SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISM DOES NOT HAVE AN OPTION TO SAVE WATER.
THE CONFIGURATION OF SUCH A 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISM DOES NOT ENCOURAGE WATER SAVING AS THE USER HAS TO BE EDUCATED TO USE THE PRODUCT AND IS NOT LOGICAL.
THE MECHANISM LOGIC IS AS FOLLOWS: A. DEPRESS HANDLE AND RELEASE = 'EXTENDED' FLUSH B. DEPRESS HANDLE AND HOLD DEPRESSED = 'REDUCED' FLUSH THE LOGIC OF HOLDING THE HANDLE DEPRESSED FOR A 'REDUCED' FLUSH DOES NOT FIT INTO THE USERS COMPREHENSION.
THERE IS A SCHEME RUNNING AT THE MOMENT WHERE 'SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON TOILETS ARE BEING RETROFFITED WITH A DEVICE TO CONVERT THEM INTO A 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON TOILET.
THESE MECHANISMS REVERSE THE ABOVE LOGIC BY CONVERTING A 'SINGLE' FLUSH TOILET AS FOLLOWS: A. DEPRESS HANDLE AND RELEASE = 'REDUCED' FLUSH B. DEPRESS HANDLE AND HOLD DEPRESSED = 'EXTENDED' FLUSH UNFORTUNATELY IN ORDER FOR THESE RETROFITTED DEVICES TO CREATE THE DESIRED LOGIC FOR WATER SAVING, THE EXISTING DUAL FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISMS NEED TO BE CONVERTED TO 'SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISMS.
THE AIM OF THIS INVENTION IS TO ECONOMICALLY (AND IN SITU) CONVERT AN EXISTING STANDARD 'DUAL' FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISM INTO A SINGLE' FLUSH SYPHON MECHANISM SO THAT A RETOFITTABLE DEVICE CAN THEN BE FITTED TO CONVERT THE TOILET BACK TO A 'DUAL FLUSH TOILET WITH THE CORRECT LOGICAL OPERATION AND THUS CREATE A BIAS TO SAVING WATER AND NOT WASTING WATER.
THE OPERATION OF EXISTING STANDARD 'DUAL FLUSH SYPHON TOILETS IS OUTLINED BELOW (REFER TO FIGURES 1,2,3 &4) FIGURES 1 & 2-EXTENDED FLUSH A. THE USER DEPRESSES TOILET HANDLE (2) IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION (2a) AND RELEASES THE HANDLE (2) WHICH RETURNS BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL POSITION DUE TO THE INTERACTION OF SPRING (6), MAIN SHAFT (5), CONNECTING WIRE (4) AND LEVER (3).
B. DURING THE DOWNWARD MOTION, AS THE TOILET HANDLE IS ROTATIONALLY CONNECTED TO THE INTERNAL LEVER (3), THE LEVER (3) PIVOTS AND LIFTS THE CONNECTING WIRE (4), MAIN SHAFT (5) AND DIAPHRAGM (7) IN AN UPWARDS DIRECTION (16). THIS ACTION CREATES A SYPHONING ACTION WHICH DRAWS WATER THROUGH THE SYPHON BODY (1) THROUGH TO THE OUTLET (17) AND THUS TO THE TOILET BOWL.
C. THE WATER EXITS THE SYPHON BODY (1) AND THE WATER LEVEL DROPS FROM THE FIRST LEVEL (9) UNTIL AIR IS ALLOWED TO DISRUPT THE SYPHONING MECHANISM IN THE SYPHON BODY (1).
IN THE CASE OF THESE DEVICES THE AIR CAN DISRUPT THE SYPHONING MECHANISM BY ENTERING HOLE (8) WHEN THE WATER LEVEL REACHES THE SECOND LEVEL (10).
D. THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTENDED FLUSH.
FIGURES 3 & 4 -REDUCED FLUSH A. THE USER DEPRESSES TOILET HANDLE (2) IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION (2a) AND KEEPS THE HANDLE (2) DEPRESSED AT POSITION (18).
C. THE WATER EXITS THE SYPHON BODY (1) THROUGH OUTLET (17) AND THE WATER LEVEL DROPS FROM THE FIRST LEVEL (9) UNTIL AIR IS ALLOWED TO ENTER THE SYPHON BODY (1) AT LOCATION (12) THROUGH SLOTS (11) WHICH DISRUPTS THE SYPHONING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE THE WATER LEVEL DROPS FROM START POSITION (9)TO POSITION (14).
D. THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS A REDUCED FLUSH.
THE AIM OF THIS INVENTION IS TO PREVENT THE TOILET SYPHON MECHANISM FROM ACHIEVING A REDUCED FLUSH IN AN ILLOGICAL WAY.
THE INVENTIVE STEP THAT ACHIEVES THE ABOVE AIM CAN BE SEEN BELOW (REFER TO FIGURES 5,6,7 &8) FIGURES 5 & 6-EXTENDED FLUSH A. AN ADDITIONAL SLEEVE (19) IS ADDED TO THE MECHANISM. THE SLEEVE IS FITTED ONTO THE MAIN SHAFT (5) AND CAN SLIDE UP AND DOWN.
B. THE USER DEPRESSES TOILET HANDLE (2) IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION (2a) AND RELEASES THE HANDLE (2) WHICH RETURNS BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION DUE TO THE INTERACTION OF SPRING (6), MAIN SHAFT (5), CONNECTING WIRE (4) AND LEVER (3).
E. THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTENDED FLUSH.
FIGURES 7 & 8-EXTENDED FLUSH (ORIGINALLY REDUCED FLUSH) A. THE USER DEPRESSES TOILET HANDLE (2) IN A DOWNWARD DIRECTION (22) AND KEEPS THE HANDLE (2) DEPRESSED AT POSITION (18).
C. THE WATER EXITS THE SYPHON BODY (1) THROUGH OUTLET (17) AND THE WATER LEVEL DROPS FROM THE FIRST LEVEL (9) UNTIL AIR IS ALLOWED TO ENTER THE SYPHON BODY (1). AT LOCATION (12) THE AIR IS PREVENTED FROM ENTERING THROUGH SLOTS (11) BY THE BARRIER CREATED BY THE SLEEVE (19). THE AIR CAN NOW ONLY ENTER THE SYPHON BODY (1) THROUGH HOLE (8). IN THIS CASE THE WATER LEVEL DROPS FROM START POSITION (9) TO POSITION (10).
D. THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTENDED FLUSH.
THE LOGIC OF THE MECHANISM HAS NOW BEEN CHANGED SO THAT IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER THE HANDLE (2) IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED OR DEPRESSED AND HELD DOWN AN EXTENDED FLUSH IS ACHIEVED.
