Abstract

A pre-loading bearing element 400 is provided. The pre-loading bearing element 400 is configured to be inserted or insertable into a busbar of a brushless DC motor. The pre-loading bearing element 400 consists of a stamped plate having: a top surface; an annular portion 410 delimited by a central opening (o) and from which a multitude of projections 420 extend radially outwards. At the top surface a rubber ring 430 is over-moulded on the annular portion 410. A method of manufacturing such a pre-loading bearing element is also disclosed.

Description

Description
Preloading bearing element The present invention relates to a preloading bearing element configured to be used within an electrohydraulic braking unit of a vehicle.
The bearing arrangement for a rotating component, e.g., a shaft, generally requires two bearings to support and locate the component radially and axially relative to the stationary part of the machine. Bearings are largely used as components of braking operating units in the automotive industry. EF1882295 describes such a brake operating unit wherein a pis-ton-pump is connected to an electric motor by a gear, and a rotor mounting support comprising at least two spaced rotor bearings, of which at least one so-called A-bearing supports a shaft, and a so-called B-bearing that is supported in a pot-shaped motor housing.
In this context, properly preloading a bearing increases its lifetime and eliminate vibration or noise that could occur when a clearance appears due to lack of manufacturing precision or wear. However, the seat for the washer spring, namely the bearing shield, is a massive component with a complex design since it needs to withstand high preload constant forces through washer spring, with values that goes from 170N up to 300N. Such a complex design means additional manufacturing costs, as well as loss of space in axial direction -which becomes important when such a component is subject to packaging.
For these reasons, the technical problem to be solved is to design a replacing component able to perform the same functional role as the washer spring, namely preloading a bearing, but obtained with lower costs.
The object of the present invention is to solve the deficiencies of the mentioned prior art and to provide a solution to preload the A-bearing with a different design, material and shape.
This object is achieved according to the invention by means of the technical characteristics mentioned in the independent claim, namely a preloading bearing element.
Further advantageous embodiments are the subject matter of the dependent claims.
The subject-matter of the present invention is a preloading bearing element for a brushless DC motor, namely an impeller configured to be inserted or insertable into a busbar of the brushless DC motor. The mentioned impeller is a stamped plate having a top surface, an annular portion delimited by a central opening and from which a plurality of projections extend radially. A ring is overmolded on the annular portion, at the top surface.
The main advantages of using the impeller according to invention are: - a hardened bearing surface to create more uniform torque control at a reduced cost; - protection against looseness resulting from vibration and corrosion.
Further special features and advantages of the present invention can be taken from the following description of an advantageous embodiment by way of the accompanying drawings: -Fig. 1 is an exploded view of a prior art motor assembly from a brake operating unit, the motor assembly including a bearing shield and a washer spring; -Fig. 2 is a sectional view of a brake operating unit provided with a preloading bearing element according to invention; Fig. 3 is a view of the preloading bearing element; Fig. 4 shows a sectional view of a preloading bearing element mounted into a modified busbar of a motor assembly.
Referring now to Fig. 1, it shows the prior art design of a motor assembly, component of a brake operating unit of a vehicle. In the depicted prior art configuration, the motor assembly comprises a motor housing 1, a motor busbar 2, a ball bearing 3, a spring washer 4 and a bearing shield 5.
Fig. 2 shows a sectional view of a brake operating unit, comprising a motor assembly provided with a busbar 200 modified to be able to receive and hold in place a preloading bearing element 400, in order to preload a bearing 300.
Fig. 3 shows the details of the preloading bearing element 400 configured to be inserted or insertable into the modified bus-bar 200. Preloading bearing element consists into a stamped plate having an annular portion 410 delimited by a central opening o and from which a multitude of projections 420 extend radially. Projections 420 are symmetrically placed around the annular portion 410. On top surface of annular portion 410 a rubber ring 430 is overmolded. Preloading bearing element is made of plastic or non-magnetic steel.
Fig. 4 illustrates a side view of the modified busbar 200, provided with holding clips and anti-rotation features (not referenced), able to limit the movements of the preloading bearing element, once inserted onto the modified busbar.
In order to obtain the preloading bearing element, there is provided also a method of manufacturing comprising the following steps: - providing a sheet of material; -stamping the sheet of material in order to form a stamped plate with projections extending radially and symmetrically placed around an annular portion; - punching a central opening on the stamped plate; and - overmolding a rubber ring over the stamped plate on the annular portion between the central opening and the projec-tions.
However, while certain embodiments of the present invention have been described in detail, those familiar with the art to which this invention relates will recognize various alternative designs and embodiments for practicing the invention as defined by the following claims.
