Abstract
A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism, comprising; an enclosure extending from an upper end to a lower end, with the endless loop blind control element enclosed within the enclosure between the upper end to the lower end of said enclosure, when in a first position; a connector supporting the upper end of the enclosure adjacent to the blind operating mechanism and depending downwardly from it; and the lower end of said enclosure moveable from said first position towards that upper end to a second position so as to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element. The invention also relates to a lower housing displaceble towards the enclosure.
Claims (42)
1. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism, comprising: (a) an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end, with the endless loop blind control element enclosed within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure, when in a first position; (b) a connector supporting the first end of the enclosure adjacent to the blind operating mechanism; and (c) the first and second ends of said enclosure are moveable relative one another from said first position to a second position so as to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element.
2. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 1 , wherein said enclosure comprises a first and second enclosure section, one telescoping within the other, and said first enclosure section presents said first end and said second enclosure section presents said second end

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 2 wherein said first enclosure section is fixed and said second enclosure section moves relative to said first enclosure section from said first position to said second position to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element .
4. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 3 wherein said second enclosure section moves between said first and second positions under a force.
5. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in claim 4 wherein said second enclosure section moves to the second position by gravity.

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in claim 1 wherein the first end of said enclosure defines an upper end of the enclosure and the second end of the enclosure defines a lower end of the enclosure and said lower end and upper end of the enclosure are moveable relative one another between said first and second positions so as to enclose the endless loop blind control element in said first position and to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element in said second position.

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in claim 6 wherein said enclosure comprises an upper and lower telescoping section, said upper telescoping section presenting an upper end and another end and said lower telescoping section presenting a lower end and another end to telescope with said another end of said upper telescoping section.

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 7 wherein said lower end of said lower telescoping section includes a housing for receiving a portion of said endless loop blind control element, and said lower telescoping section is moveable relative said housing and to said upper telescoping section in said second position to expose a portion of said endless loop blind control element.
9. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 6 wherein said housing includes a hole for receiving a fastener to fasten the housing to a frame of a window or wall.
10. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in claim 9 wherein said fastener comprises a screw having a shoulder between its ends.

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 9 wherein said lower end of said enclosure includes biasing means compressible from a first position enclosing said endless loop blind control element to a second position to expose a portion of said endless loop blind control element.
12. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 1 wherein said enclosure is selected from metal, cloth, plastic, rubber, or wood material.
13. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 8 wherein said housing includes a sprocket for engaging said endless loop blind control element.
14. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element as claimed in Claim 8 wherein said housing includes a pulley for engaging said endless loop blind control element.
15. The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism and comprising: (a) an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end, wherein the endless loop blind control element is enclosed within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure when in a first position; (b) a connector supporting the first end of said enclosure adjacent to the blind operating mechanism and depending downwardly from it; (c) housing means disposed at one of the first or second ends of said enclosure for receiving a portion of said endless loop blind control element; (d) biasing means disposed between said housing means and said one of the first or second ends of said enclosure, and said housing means for tensioning said endless loop blind control element in said enclosure in said first position; (e) said housing means moveable relative said one of the first or second ends of said enclosure to compress said biasing means and release said endless loop blind control element from tension to permit manual manipulation of said endless loop blind control element in a second position.

The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 15 wherein said first end comprises an upper end and said second end comprises a lower end and said housing means is disposed at a position selected from said lower end , said upper end or both said upper or lower ends.
17 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 15 wherein the upper end of said enclosure includes a fastener for holding the enclosure against the blind operating mechanism and permit the enclosure to be swung away from a window or a wall.
18 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 17 wherein the housing includes a sprocket wheel disposed within said housing for engaging said endless loop blind control element.
19 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 17 wherein the housing includes a pulley wheel disposed within said housing for engaging said endless loop blind control element.
20 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 17 wherein the enclosure includes a channel for receiving a portion of said endless loop blind control element in said first position and said portion of said endless loop blind control element is manually accessible in said second position.
21 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 20 wherein said channel includes a cut out.
22 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 21 including a pusher cam for pushing a portion of said endless loop blind control element from said channel in said second position .
23 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 17 wherein said fastener is selected from the group of a screw, clip or hook.
24 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in Claim 23 wherein said housing includes a hole for fastening to a window or wall
5 The kit for a blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism comprising: an enclosure extending from an upper end to a lower end, said enclosure including an upper telescoping section and a lower telescoping section with the endless loop blind control element enclosed within the upper and lower telescoping section wherein said lower telescoping section is moveable relative the upper telescoping section to permit access to said endless loop blind control element in the first position and wherein said second telescoping member covers the endless loop blind control element when moved to a second position .
26 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism and comprising: (f) an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end, wherein the endless loop blind control element is enclosed within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure when in a first position; (g) a connector supporting the first end of said enclosure adjacent to the blind operating mechanism and depending downwardly from it; (h) housing means disposed at the first and second ends of said enclosure for receiving a portion of said endless loop blind control element; (i) biasing means disposed between one of said housing means at the first or second ends and said one of the first or second ends of said enclosure respectively , for tensioning said endless loop blind control element in said enclosure in said first position; (j) said housing means moveable relative said one of the first or second ends of said enclosure to compress said biasing means and release said endless loop blind control element from tension to permit manual manipulation of said endless loop blind control element in a second position.
27 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 26 wherein said enclosure includes two opposite channels for receiving said endless loop blind control elements .
28 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 27 including stopper means.
29 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 28 including a cam.
30 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 29 including a sprocket disposed in said housing means.
31 The blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 30 wherein said housing means includes a cover.
32 A method of barring access to and endless loop blind control element in an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end comprising : (a) placing the endless loop blind control element within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure, so as to enclose the endless loop blind control element in the enclosure when in a first position; (b) supporting the first end of the enclosure adjacent to a blind operating mechanism; and (c) moving said first and second ends relative towards one another from said first position to a second position so as to expose a portion of said endless loop blind control element permit operation of said endless loop blind control element.
33. The method as claimed in claim 32 wherein the first and second ends are biased away from each other by a biasing means disposed at one of said first and second ends.
34. The method as claimed in claim 33 wherein the biasing means are disposed in a housing .
35. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism, comprising: (a) a housing having said blind operating mechanism ; (b) an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end, with the endless loop blind control element enclosed within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure, when in a first position; (c) the first and second ends of said enclosure are moveable relative one another from said first position to a second position so as to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element.
36. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 35 wherein said blind operating mechanism includes a mechanism selected from the group of sprocket and pulley.
37. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 36 wherein said endless loop blind control element is selected from the group of ball and chain, drive belt, and drive chord .
38. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 37 including fastening means for supporting the first end of the enclosure adjacent to the housing and blind operating mechanism; and
39. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 38 wherein said fastening means is selected from the group of screw, screw with a shoulder, and clip.
40. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism as claimed in claim 39 wherein said enclosure hangs vertically in a vertical position and is swingable to a second operable position to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element in said second position.
41. A blind having a blind operating mechanism and an endless loop blind control element for operating the blind mechanism, comprising: (k) an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end, with the endless loop blind control element enclosed within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure, when in a first position; (I) a connector supporting the first end of the enclosure adjacent to the blind operating mechanism; and (m) the second end of said enclosure moveable from said first position to a second position so as to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element.
42. A method of barring access to and endless loop blind control element in an enclosure extending from a first end to a second end comprising : placing the endless loop blind control element within the enclosure between the first end to the second end of said enclosure, so as to enclose the endless loop blind control element in the enclosure when in a first position; supporting the first end of the enclosure adjacent to a blind operating mechanism; and moving said second end to a second position so as to permit operation of said endless loop blind control element.
