The C-shaped member has a pair or orthogonal bores for receiving nails, screws or other fasteners which attach the C-shaped member to a stud or joist.
EP 824 406 (DAVIS et al) discloses an adjustable clip having a first part and a second part capable of attaching an article in a variety of positions where the first part includes a back surface and a first flat surface at an angle with respect of about 40 to 60 DEG 5 with respect to back surface. The second in part includes clip means and attached to one end of clip means is flat surface at an angle of about 20 to 50 DEG with respect to a line parallel to the surface to be attached and means to rotationally connect the first part to the second part such that flat surfaces are brought into close parallel alignment and clip means can be adjusted to at least two positions with respect to the back 10 surface of the article The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices.
Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a clip device comprising a clip means arranged to secure an elongate cylindrical object such as a pipe which extends along a first axis, and a base providing a plurality of fastener engagement holes; wherein the holes allow at least one hole for use of a fastener to fasten the device to a structure arranged substantially parallel the first axis, and at least one hole to fasten the device to a structure arranged substantially orthogonal the first axis.
In order to secure the pipe or similar object the clip means may comprise pipe holding 25 arms, for example two arms, which arms may be envisaged to extend from a base.
The arms may be envisaged to be resilient, so as to be opened up to extend around the pipe and bias return.
The arms may be envisaged to be a plastics, such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).
In some embodiments the base may provide the engagement holes, so as to allow the base to be secured to a structure or surface along more than one axis.
The base may comprise a substantially solid block, for example a cuboid or rectanguloid shape, with the clip extending from a face thereof In some embodiments the clip means may be displaceably connected to the base. For example in some embodiments the clip may be connected to the base at a pivot, such that the clip means may spin on the base. In this way the device may effectively allow for variation of angle of the clip means and pipe along the first axis with reference the structure.
In some embodiments the base may comprise a displaceable portion.
For example in some embodiments the base may comprise a displaceable portion including a hole. In this way the displaceable portion may enable the device to arrange the clip along a further axis.
For example the displaceable portion may comprise a perforated flap which flap may provide a hole for passage of a fastener, and such flap may depend from an edge of the base.
Such displaceable portion may be connected to the base by a connecting portion, for example a living hinge or similar, or for example comprise a slidable portion. In some embodiments the connecting portion may enable the displaceable portion to be wholly displaced from the base.
For example should the connecting portion be a living hinge it may be envisaged that the living hinge may provide a breakage location.
In some embodiments the holes may be countersunk or indented so as to permit clean and obstruction free faces.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the Figures in which:
Brief Description of Figures
Figure 1 shows an isometric view of a first embodiment of the device according to the present invention; Figure 2 shows a reverse isometric view of the embodiment of the device shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 shows a sketch of an isometric view of two of the embodiments shown in Figure 1, in use securing two objects to a structure; And Figure 4 shows an isometric view of a second embodiment of the device according to the present invention.
Detailed Description of Figures
With reference to the figures there is shown embodiments of a clip device 99 generally comprising a clip means 3 arranged to secure a cylindrical object such as a pipe 105, extending along a first axis, and a base 2 providing a plurality of fastener engagement holes 5, 6 allowing use of fasteners 200 to fasten to a structure 100 parallel the first axis, and to fasten to a structure on an orthogonal second axis.
In particular reference to the pictured embodiment in Figure 1 the embodiment's clip 3 25 comprises a pair of arcuate arms 1, which extend upwards from the base 2, leaving an opening between the arms' ends 1 The clip and base are formed as a single moulded part, in acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), which may be provided in a variety of colours so as to easily identify 30 piping purposes in multipipe arrangements.
The base has a substantially rectanguloid body 4, wherein a pipe channel forming the clip means 3 is defined to either side by the arms 1 and depends central the front and rear faces.
The body with has four long faces, namely a front face and rear face, a top face and a bottom face, with two short end faces.
The body is formed by three flat faces, the front and end faces, and the rear face is 5 open to moulded structural ribbing, due to the body needs to have an even wall thickness to facilitate injection moulding.
The body is substantially the same width as the arms, ensuring that flexure in the clip is controlled and not liable to degradation over reuse A fastener hole 5 passes from the top face to the bottom face. The top face is advantageously indented so as to allow counter-sinking of the hole and fastener in use.
It may be envisaged that the fastener passing through this hole will thereby be 15 substantially orthogonal the pipe axis in use.
A tab 8 depends from the long lower edge of the rear face.
The tab 8 includes the second hole 6 for a fastener, so as to allow the fastener to be 20 used orthogonal the fastener through the first hole 5. This second hole may be countersunk in some embodiments.
The tab 8 is connected to the body 4 at a living hinge 7. In this way the tab may be folded under the body if not needed, such that the fastener may pass through the body 25 and the tab into the structure as appropriate.
Additionally or alternatively the tab may be displaced or snapped away from the body, using the line of weakness of the living hinge 7.
Additionally or alternatively the tab may be used as pictured in Figure 1, where the tab depends directly in line with the front face of the body. This enable the embodiment to be used as shown in Figure 3, where the fastener 200 passes through the second hole or tab and holds the embodiment on a top edge of a structure 100.
In the pictured embodiment the living hinge 7 provides a cut-out line of weakness to the rear face, which enables flexure in both directions.
It may be envisaged that the living hinge, or line of weakness may in other embodiments be disposed towards the front face, so as to avoid weakening of the tab in such use.
As shown in Figure 3 also, the first hole 5 allows the embodiment to be mounted on a face of the structure, and the tab may be snapped of at the living hinge.
The second embodiment as shown in Figure 4 comprises elongate arcuate arms, 10 extend upwards from a small base depending from central the lowest point of the clip's circumference, opposite the opening between the arm ends.
The two holes intersect within the base, wherein a first hole 5 passes through the inner face of the clip, at the lowest point, and a second hole 6 passes through the base from 15 front face to rear face.
The small base 14 is narrower from its front face to rear face, so as to provide an overhang 15 allowing for the fastener hole to be recessed, and the fastener head to be recessed The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of invention as defined by the claims, in particular but not solely combination of features of described embodiments.
