Description

A toilet covering The present invention relates to a toilet covering and more particularly to a hygienic toilet covering. It further relates 5 to a toilet seat and a toilet.
Toilet plume is the dispersal of microscopic particles while flushing a toilet. Some studies shows that the toilet spray can reach around six feet away from the toilet and can last up to six hours and disperse all over the bathroom, including items such as toothbrushes, towels and beauty products. There is indirect evidence that specific pathogens such as norovirus or SARS coronavirus could potentially be spread by toilet aerosols.
The majority of the plume spray can be prevented by closing a traditional toilet seat on western toilets before flushing. Though closing the traditional toilet seat can prevent the spray to surrounding areas, it does not prevent the spray falling on the seat rim and the inside of seat lid itself. This means seats are very unhygienic for the next person to use while sitting on the same seat or/and leaning back on the toilet lid (especially for children) or even the cloths touching the lid (especially ladies wear). It can have worse effects in the case of public toilets. -2 -
It is an aim of the present invention to provide a toilet seat preventing toilet plume from falling on the seat and/or the lid and at the same time dispersing to the surrounding areas.
Accordingly, a first aspect of the present invention is directed to a toilet covering comprising: a covering part adapted to be placed beneath a toilet rim of a toilet seat; and actuation means configured to close or open the toilet 10 covering.
This provides the advantages that when the toilet covering is safely secured to the toilet seat and toilet pan is not visible.
Advantageously, the toilet covering further comprises fixing means to secure the covering part to the toilet rim. This will allow the covering part to be securely attached to the toilet rim whilst still able to perform a sliding function.
Preferably, the actuation means close or open the toilet covering by a sliding function. The speed of the closing of the toilet covering is minimal to avoid any risk.
Advantageously, the covering part comprises two separate and symmetrical parts. This enables better storage underneath the 25 rim of the toilet seat. -3 -
Preferably, the toilet covering is closed when the two parts are joined together in its middle.
Advantageously, the separate parts are linked together by connection means. This will enable both parts to smoothly slide 5 together.
In a further embodiment, the covering part is stored on one side of the toilet rim when not in use.
Preferably, the toilet covering is closed when the covering part reaches the opposite side of the rim.
Advantageously, the actuation means are knobs extending from the covering part to the front of the toilet seat. This provides the 15 advantage of easy gripping by the toilet user for opening and closing the toilet covering.
In a further embodiment, the actuation means operates by rotation.
Preferably, the actuation means are electronically means.
In a further embodiment, the actuation means operate the closure of the toilet covering electronically and the flush when the toilet covering is fully closed. The toilet seat and the toilet water tank will be synchronised to operate electronically once the actuation button is activated to close the toilet covering. -4 -
As soon as the toilet covering is fully closed, the flush will be released. This avoids the flush to be actuated if the toilet covering is still open.
In a further embodiment, the toilet covering operates on battery with wireless control switch.
A second aspect of the present invention is directed to a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering. The toilet seat can easily 10 be removed from the toilet for cleaning.
A third aspect of the present invention is directed to a toilet equipped with a toilet covering.
Examples of a toilet covering according to the present invention will now be described hereinbelow with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet 20 covering according to a first embodiment of the present invention in a closed position; Figure 2 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a first embodiment of the present 25 invention in an open position; -5 -Figure 3 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a first embodiment of the present invention in a partially open position; and Figure 4 is a bottom view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 5 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet 10 covering according to a second embodiment of the present invention in a closed position; Figure 6 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a second embodiment of the present 15 invention in an open position; Figure 7 is a top view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a second embodiment of the present invention in a partially open position; and Figure 8 is a bottom view of a toilet seat equipped with a toilet covering according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering underneath the toilet seat 1 in a closed position. The toilet -6 -covering 10 has a curtain shutter mechanism to operate the toilet covering 10 manually with two extended knobs 12 at the front of the toilet seat 1. The same embodiment can be made to operate with a battery by a wireless control switch which can be mounted near the toilet.
Figure 2 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 10 underneath in an open position. The two extended knobs 12 extend away from the middle of the toilet seat 1.
Figure 3 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 10 underneath in a partially open position. The two extended knobs 12 are slightly extended away from the middle of the toilet seat 1. The curtain shutter mechanism comprises two symmetrical and separated parts 14 and 16 which join together in the middle of the toilet covering 10 when it is closed.
Figure 4 shows the bottom of a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 10 in a partially open position. The curtain shutter mechanism is secured by a top stem 18 and a bottom stem 20 passing through the various curtains of the two symmetrical and separated parts 14 and 16, thereby linking them together. The extended knobs 12 are part of the curtain mechanism.
Figure 5 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering underneath the toilet seat 1 in a closed position. The toilet covering 100 has a sliding plates' mechanism to operate the toilet covering 100 manually with two extended knobs 120 at the front of the toilet seat 1. The same embodiment can be made to operate with a battery by a wireless control switch which can be mounted near the toilet. In this particular example, the top sliding plate 22a is in a shape of half oval ring and is located on one side of the toilet seat 1. It has its corresponding and symmetrical sliding plate 22b located on the opposite side of the toilet seat 1. The bottom sliding plate 24a is in a half plain oval shape and is located below the top sliding plate 22a. It has its corresponding and symmetrical sliding plate 24b located on the opposite side of the toilet seat 1. The two sliding plates 22 and 24 slide over each other to close and open the toilet covering 100.
Figure 6 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 100 underneath in an open position. The two extended knobs 120 extend away from the middle of the toilet seat 1. When fully opened the sliding plates 22 and 24 will slide under their respective side of the toilet seat 1 and will be stored underneath.
Figure 7 shows a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 25 100 underneath in a partially open position. The two extended knobs 120 are slightly extended away from the middle of the -8 -toilet seat 1. The sliding plates' mechanism comprises two symmetrical and corresponding sliding plates 22 and 24 which join together in the middle of the toilet covering 10 when it is closed.
Figure 8 shows the bottom of a toilet seat 1 equipped with a toilet covering 100 in a partially open position. The sliding plate's mechanism is secured by a top bar 180 and a bottom bar 200 connecting the two sliding plates 22, 24 to the toilet seat 1. Each slideable means 26 connect each sliding plate (22a, 22b, 24a, 24b) on top bar 180 and bottom bar 200. The slideable means 26 are small hollow tubes which surround the bars 180, 200 in this particular example. This enables the sliding function of the plates on the bars. The extended knobs 120 are part of the outward ends of the sliding plates 22, 24. The top sliding plate 22 is linked to the bottom plate 24 by a connection means (not visible on the figure) in a way to control the sliding of the plates on top of each other.
Various other mechanisms can be used to open and close the toilet covering such as roller mechanism or magic box mechanism. The list of mechanisms described as examples and listed hereto is not exhaustive. -9 -
The roller mechanism is similar to the sliding plate mechanism but uses roller of thin sheet of material such as plastics material as the covering part. The roll of sheet will be stored on one side of the toilet rim. The roll of sheet can be operated manually or electronically to unroll the sheet of material and act as a toilet covering. The toilet covering is fully closed once the covering part reaches the opposite side of the toilet rim.
With regard to the magic box mechanism, a rotating knob on one side of the rim will act as actuation means. This rotating knob can be operated manually or electronically controlled on battery-powered with wireless control switch, which can be mounted near the toilet.
