Abstract

A bib 100 for a user comprising a front layer 110, a back layer 120, and at least one intermediate layer 130 in between the front and back layer; the at least three layers being attached to each other and forming a main portion for catching detritus dropped by a user and two arms 220, 230 extending from opposing ends of an edge of the main portion for securing the bib to a user when in use. Preferably the back layer is waterproof and comprises polyurethane; the front layer is formed from jersey cotton; and the intermediate layer is formed of bamboo fabric or a polyester fleece. Preferably the arms are secured by nickel-free metal press studs or snap fasteners 221, 231. The bib is particularly suited to a drooling or dribbling baby, the intermediate layer able to absorb a large quantity of liquid while the front layer maintains comfort and the rear layer keeps the infant’s clothes dry.

Description

Dribble Proof Bib [001] The present invention relates to a dribble proof bib. Particularly the present invention relates to a waterproof bib made from multiple layers of material. More particularly the present invention relates to a dribble and waterproof bib made from a plurality of layers of material to provide a comfortable and water-resistant bib suitable for use with children.
Background of the Invention
Napkins, bibs and the like have been known for a long time. It is common practice even for adults to cover their lap and/or chest with a napkin or specific bib when eating, and this is with adults.
When it comes to infants, bibs are a must. Even the tidiest of infants will dribble, push food out their mouth, and regurgitate food from time to time, and often at a near constant rate.
Most bibs available, even those specifically for use with infants, consist of little more than a single laver of flannel or cloth like material They tend to have highly absorbent properties, but often at the sacrifice of water resistance. This means regularly carers for infants find that the bib often becomes sodden and full of liquid before the bib has finished being used, or at the very least a new bib will be needed at the next feeding etc. Once soaked through the bib can become counterproductive. Any moisture leaking through can soak into and stain the top that is supposed to be being protected. Even worse the moisture and resulting reduced temperature increases the infant's risk of catching infections, especially if the infant is already predisposed to such type of ailments. [2] [3] [4] [5]
[6] Current water-resistant bibs available tend to be made of plastics and can be very rigid and uncomfortable, and also at times tricky to secure. Also, if they don't have a drip catch at the bottom, often the slick surface can let whatever spillage it catches to slide off and onto the infant's lap, avoiding getting the chest of the infant wet and cold, but mainly just transferring the problem to a different location on the infant.
[7] It is therefore an object of the current invention to provide a cloth bib which has water resistant properties but that also catches any spillage, preferably also able to have visually pleasant outer appearance.
Statement of Invention
[8] According to a first aspect there is provided a bib for a user comprising a front layer, a back layer, and at least one intermediate layer in between the front and back layer; the at least three layers being attached to each other and forming a main portion for catching detritus dropped by a user and two arms extending from opposing ends of an edge of the main portion for securing the bib to a user when in use.
[9] An embodiment of the first aspect wherein the front layer is formed from cotton. The front layer may be jersey cotton.
[10] An embodiment of the first aspect wherein an intermediate layer comprises polyester fleece. An intermediate layer comprises bamboo fabric.
[11] An embodiment of the first aspect wherein the back layer is waterproof. The back layer may comprise polyurethane.
[12] An embodiment of the first aspect wherein the two arms comprise complementary attachment means. The complimentary attachment means may comprise press studs. The press studs may be nickel free press studs.
Brief Description of the Drawings
[13] The invention will be described in more detail, by way of example, with reference to the following drawings: [01* Figure 1 depicts an exploded schematic of an embodiment of the invention; [015] Figure 2 depicts a front facing view of the present invention.
Detailed Description
[016] A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in figures 1 and 2. The bib 100 comprises a minimum of three layers. A front layer110, back layer 120, and intermediate layer 130. They are placed on top of each other and secured together around the edges, preferably stitched but any suitable known securing method can be used (such as adhesive, heat sealing etc..).
[017] The bib 100 has a large main section 210 for catching falling debris and dribble of a user. Extending from opposing ends of one edge of the main section 210 are two(preferably integrally formed) arms 220,230 extending therefrom. These are used to secure the bib 100 around a user's neck. To aid in securing the bib 100 to a user arms 220,230 comprise complimentary connection means 221,231. In the preferred embodiment depicted in figures 1 and 2 the complimentary connection means 221,231are press studs.
Connection means 231 comprising a plurality of connection means at different positions on arm 230 so as to accommodate different neck sizes.
[18] In an even more preferable embodiment, the press studs 221,231 are nickel free press studs to make sure to avoid any potential allergic reaction or "nickel itch" as it is commonly known.
[19] Front layer 110 is preferably made from Jersey cotton although any suitable material can be used.
[20] Intermediate layer 120 has at least one layer and is made from polyester fleece and/or bamboo fabric, these materials are highly absorbent but also breathable.
[021] Back layer 130 is made from a polyurethane fabric laminate, it is both breathable and waterproof The combination of the three preferred fabrics provides a bib which is waterproof, yet highly absorbent and breathable.
[022] The invention has been described with reference to a preferred embodiment. The description is intended to enable a skilled person to make the invention, not to limit the scope of the invention. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims.
