Description

TITLE OF THE INVENTION.
Cannabis Conservation Device and Method
FIELD OF THE INVENTION.
The inventive subject matter relates to devices used for smoking combustible leafy plant matter and derivatives of plant matter
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING.
FIG. 1 is a drawing showing the cannabis conservation device and its use with a bong.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Pipes and bongs have long been used for smoking tobacco, cannabis, and other plant-derived matter. The present invention can be used in combination with a bong for efficiently smoking plant-derived matter while conserving the smokable material and any active substances therein. The device is comprised of a hollow tapered member 2 which has a narrowed end 4 so that it can be inserted into a bong hole 18 of a bong 13. A heating element 8 is positioned at a wide end 6 of the tapered member. A combustion chamber 10 is positioned with a first end 12 connected to the wide end of the elongated member. A removable lid 16 is disposed at a second end 14 of the combustion chamber. The heating element 8 is therefore positioned at the junction of the elongated member and the combustion chamber and is configured to allow smoke to pass from the combustion chamber into the elongated member. The heating element can be fabricated as an assembly from a resistive wire affixed to a ceramic screen, or the screen could be affixed to the wide end 6 of the hollow tapered member 2. The heating element could also be fabricated from a magnetically conductive screen. Heat would be generated within the magnetically conductive screen by electromagnetic induction with an inverter being connected to the battery and with the coils connected to the inverter, the coils positioned close to the heating element. FIG. 1 shows a configuration allowing wireless ignition using a remote igniter 20 for the user to initiate heating and combustion and/or vaporization. With removable lid in place at the second end of the combustion chamber, material within the combustion chamber can be vaporized when heated either electrically with the heating element or the user could apply a flame to the removable lid. Wireless communication unit 7 receives ignition signal from the remote igniter and causes power to be supplied to the heating element from battery 5. A rechargeable battery may be used. Electricity from the battery is supplied to the heating element via wires 9. On/off switch 11 operates to conserve battery power when the device is not in use. The wireless communication unit 7, battery 5, and on/off switch comprise a control unit. The battery is connected to the wireless communication unit and to the heating element. The battery supplies power to the heating element when the wireless communication unit receives an ignition signal. Power from the battery to the heating element is terminated when the wireless communication unit receives a stop signal. The on/off switch has an on state and an off state, which can be selected by a user. When the on/off switch is in an on state, power is supplied to the wireless communication unit from the battery. Conversely when the on/off switch is in an off state, the wireless communication unit receives no power. Furthermore, the device is configured so that when the on/off switch is in an off state, power cannot be delivered to the heating element. This safety feature can prevent power from being delivered to the heating unit in the event of a malfunction wherein a stop signal fails to terminate power to the heating element. A power-off function could optionally be selected by a user from the remote igniter. If the device is designed with power-on and power-off functions to be effectuated by a user operating the remote igniter, the device could be configured so that the wireless communication unit can receive a power-on signal even when the unit is switched off. The control unit further may include a timer to automatically switch off power to the heating element after a preset time. A removable lid 16 is disposed at a second end of the combustion chamber. A bong cover 22, which covers the bong's inhalation hole, has a check valve 26 which opens and allows passage of smoke when a user provides suction but which otherwise remains closed. The user can provide suction by using the mouthpiece 24 to draw smoke from the bong. The bong cover and check valve function to reduce burning and conserve gaseous and airborne particulates or smoke within the bong while the user is not actively inhaling from the bong. Thus, the cannabis conservation device achieves smoke retention and improved yields of inhalable actives.
The term wireless and wireless communication unit refers to components that can emit electromagnetic signals, which may include infrared or other electromagnetic emissions.
