Abstract
A pet bed having a base layer formed from latex-coated coco fibres; an intermediate layer formed from foamed latex; and a top layer formed from wool, wherein the intermediate layer is secured to the base layer and the top layer by a water-based latex adhesive. The bed is therefore formed from natural and non-toxic materials. It is inherently hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and dustmite-resistant, making it perfect for animals with allergies. The bed may also include a heat pad and water bladder which results in a heated pet waterbed. The heat pad may have a temperature controller. The bed may have an upstanding wall located around the peripheral edge.
Description
Patent Title A natural material pet bed.
Technical field
This invention relates to t ie field of pet accessories, notably dog and cat beds.
Description
Background
With the problem of dog and cat cancer dramatically on tie increase, some research was done to understand the direct effects of current pet accessories on animal health, It was discovered that man made foams and most notably memory foam off gasses carcinogenic fumes such as formaldehyde. As animals will not only inhale the toxic fumes whilst in their bed but also ingest tiem due to normal grooming behaviour, it was felt that an immediate solution was required.
As most memory foam pet beds are purchased for elderly animals, it was essential that the bed was not only toxic free but also orthopaedic, breathable, thermoregulating and comfortable.
To answer all these problems, this invention is manufactured purely from natural materials. As such, it is a range of mattresses that are environmentally friendly utilising only natural and non toxic materials. It comprises a mattress body of multiple layers of coco fibres, latex and wool that together create a pet bed that is naturally antimicrobial, thermo regulating, moisture wicking, breathable, mould and dust mite resistant, fire retardant, supportive and ortiopaedic.
The bed can also be created with a water bladder inside the body of the bed with an optional heat pad and temperature control attached. This creates a natural pet waterbed.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, 1. The base layer and also where there are sides to the bed ( figures 1 to 5) comprises a number of sheets of coco fibre (1) that has been formed into matting and has then been sprayed with latex. The unusually good elasticity point of natural latex ensures structure and amount of rigidity for the bed. It also ensures support whilst providing an open, breathable base enabling excellent ventilation. The latex is inherently hypoallergenic, anti-microbial and dust-mite-resistant making it perfect for animals with allergies, 2. The next layers ( figures 1&2) are of latex sheets (2). With its naturally adaptable counter pressure, this provides ideal support to all areas of the body which in turn aelps relieve pressure points. This naturally renewable material is hypoallergenic, anti-microbial, mould and dust mite resistant, again, making it suitable for animals with allergies. In addition, it's naturally thermoregulating properties ensure that pets are kept warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, 3. The top of the bed ( figures 1,2,5) is cushioned witn wool (3). This further enhances the anti microbial, dust mite resistant, moisture wicking and therm° regulating features of the bed whilst also providing an amount of natural fire retardancy together with softness and durability.
4. The layers are stuck together with a water based, non toxic latex glue. This ensures the layers remain breathable and non toxic.
5. Figure 2 shows the incorporation of a water bladder for the pet water bed. The coco fibre (1), latex (2) and wool (3) are all used in the same construction except the coco fibre is forming a base and frame in which to hold the water bladder in place, whilst the latex and wool are creating a lid for the top of the bed as a final cushion. A heat pad with temperature control can be added to the bladder area of the bed so it can heat up the water in the bladder and provide warmth when required.
This is particularly useful for providing relief from various physical ailments and can provide comfort to nursing mothers and their young.
6. The Wild Rover Travel Bed (Figure 5) comprises coco fibres sprayed with latex on the base and wool on the next (top) layer. This is a lighter bed to allow for easier movement.
7. On the Nest and Lounger beds (Figures 3 & 4) the inclusion of arms/sides provides both support for the animal's head should they wish to rest on it and also protection from drafts and the cold.
8. The construction of the Nest and Lounger pet beds comprises coco fibre and latex as a base and either a separate inner pad comprising a layer of latex and a top and base of wool. The pad is placed on top of the base of the mattress, inside the upstanding wall. Or the latex and then the wool upper sections are fixed to the coco fibre base similar in construction to the Classic pet bed ( figure 1).
9, The Double sided pet bed (Figure 6) comprising a centre layer formed from latex-coated coco fibres; an intermediate layer either side of the centre layer, formed from foamed latex; and a top and base layer formed from wool, wherein all layers are secured by a water-based latex adhesive.
