Abstract
An interface structure 802 for detachably interfacing a surgical robot arm to a surgical instrument, the interface structure comprising: a base portion comprising a first surface for facing the surgical instrument; a second surface for facing the surgical robot arm; and a rear portion attached to a rear edge of the base portion, the rear portion comprising one or more fasteners for engaging a proximal exposed surface of the surgical robot arm so as to fasten the interface structure 802 to the surgical robot arm. The base portion comprises one or more instrument engagement markings 2102a,2102b, which are visible when a surgical instrument is not fully attached to the interface structure 802, but not visible when a surgical instrument is fully attached to the interface structure 802. Preferably, the one or more instrument engagement markings 2102a,2102b are concealed by a moveable portion 1304 of the surgical instrument when it’s fully attached to the interface structure 802, providing a visual indication of whether the instrument has been fully engaged with the interface structure 802. Engagement markings 2102a,2102b may have a colour distinct to that of the interface structure 802. Also, a surgical robot arm for use in robotic surgery.
