Abstract

An ostomy bag cover adapted to fit over an ostomy appliance comprising stitched edges 3 around the perimeter to create a sealed cover for the ostomy appliance and to prevent odours, with a rear opening 2 or hole for insertion of the ostomy appliance and to enable the bag to attach to the stoma, the bag being foldable 5 to ensure its discretion when worn. The cover may feature bottom and top fastenings at the front that adhere to one another 4, such as Velcro RTM hook and loop fasteners or the like, may be made from materials such as Spandex RTM or a similar material suitable for comfort against the wearers skin.

Description

Intellectual Property Office Application No. GII1909675.9 RTM Date:16 April 2020 The following terms are registered trade marks and should be read as such wherever they occur in this document: Velcro Spandex Intellectual Property Office is an operating name of the Patent Office www.gov.uk /ipo
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates in general to ostomy bag covers and more particularly, to folding the ostomy appliance within the folded sealed edge bag cover providing a more secure comfortable and less obtrusive attachment.
The main type of ostomy appliance in widespread use is formed of a synthetic material which has an aperture located on one side for attachment to the stoma. The appliance is generally stuck onto the skin of the user, these appliances can be extremely traumatic and an irritant to the user, the length and width of the appliance is large and unsightly and the plastic and synthetic material tends to stick to the skin of the user, making it uncomfortable to use, it also flaps around and lowers self-esteem in all age groups.
Covers that are presently in use have generally been designed to enclose or at least partially enclose the ostomy appliance, thereby obscuring the contents and providing a buffer between the plastic material of the appliance and the skin of the user. Some of these covers simply cover the outline of the existing ostomy appliance or utilize various straps and attachments for supporting them on the body of the user, but none addresses the actual size and appearance of the utility which is predominantly the most disconcerting part for the user.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, it is the objective of this invention to provide an ostomy foldable bag cover which effectively conceals the ostomy appliance and reduces the size and appearance for the user which is especially important during intimate moments.
It is also an objective of the invention that the foldable bag cover can be quickly and easily installed over the ostomy appliance, through the rear opening and fastened together at the front by lifting the bottom of the front of the sealed edge bag cover onto the top of the front of the bag cover and adhering them securely, and a quick release can also be achieved by pulling open the fastening parts allowing for a swift restoring to the fully open appliance size.
It is an objective that the foldable bag cover is sealed around the outer edges which when the ostomy appliance is contained within is another barrier for protecting odours.
It is also an objective that the foldable bag is full sealed around the edges to also promote stability when folded together to reduce the size as all parts are contained within the bag cover; Some prior art covers are open at the base of the bag, meaning if trying to fold this type of bag, a fully secured bag is not achievable as the rear draining opening would not adhere to the front when folded. This is why this bag cover is fully sealed at the edges.
It is also an objective that the rear opening access is more comfortable to wear for the user as the bag is smooth against the skin and therefore does not rub, rustle or cause sweating.
It is another objective that the bag cover is simple and easy to use, requires minimal dexterity and suitable therefore for all age groups, and requires minimal dexterity especially for the elderly.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The foregoing and other objects and advantages of the invention should be visible from the following detailed description and claims when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which references parts throughout the several views, and wherein: FIG. 1 is a view of the ostomy bag cover invention shown in an open frontal position with fastening attachments top and bottom.
FIG. 2 is a rear view of the open ostomy folding bag cover.
FIG. 3 is a frontal view of the foldable bag cover over the ostomy appliance and with the invention working the bag is now folded over the Velcro fastenings or alike which are now adhered and hidden from view, and the ostomy bag cover is now greatly reduced in size and appearance.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
1.Front bag cover material. 2. Rear opening in the material in the bag cover. 3. Hemmed portion of the materials. 4. Velcro or similar front fastenings. 5. The base of the middle of the bag cover folded in two with the ostomy appliance inside and now folded. 6. The two front bag fastenings adhered together revealing the bottom rear area of the foldable bag cover. 7. Rear bag material.
The fabric material of which the ostomy bag cover of the invention is made is preferably of spandex but other materials may be used as desired. Moreover, in the specific form of the invention shown and described herein, all exposed edges of the material, including the front and back panels, are hemmed or otherwise suitably joined. 3 The invention is two but not limited in number, ostomy bag sized pieces of cut material, with a rear access hole 2 to allow access for the ostomy appliance, the rear hole 2 has a stitched finish to prevent fraying. The front panel 1 of the ostomy bag cover has sewn fastenings of either Velcro or alternative suitable fastenings 4 Both pieces of material are hemmed together 3 or otherwise suitably joined, then folded inside out to reveal the finished bag cover FIG. 1
