Abstract

258,070. Mouat, R. H. Aug. 25, 1925. Road - traffic signals on vehicles; semaphore and pointer luminous signals. - Relates to the type comprising a hollow standard 1 secured to the vehicle, a hollow spindle 3 sleeving the standard, a member 4 constituting the indicator proper mounted on the spindle and means for imparting combined endwise and oscillatary movements to the spindle, said means including a Bowden wire having its core 8 connected to the spindle and to an operating lever 9 near the driver; and consists in associating with the lever means for restoring it, after actuation, to a midposition, there being in the indicator proper a lamp controlled by a switch on the operating lever so that the lamp is extinguished when the lever is in mid-position. A pin 7 in the hollow spindle 3 is guided in helical slots 6 in the standard 1 and is moved down against the influence of a spring 8<a> when the Bowden wire 8 is pulled. The operating lever 9 has a pivot pin 10 which moves against the influence of a spiral spring 12 adapted to return it to mid-position, where it makes a contact 14 in the circuit of a lamp 5<a> illuminating a red pane 13. This lamp may be in circuit with a circuit closer controlled by the brake or clutch pedal of the vehicle. The indicator comprises a hollow glazed frame 4 having the configuration of an arrow and accommodating lamps 5, 5<a> behind the panes.
