258,043. Frood, H., and Ferodo, Ltd. July 17, 1925. Drawings to Specification. Energy-absorbing elements.-A friction ring or lining for brakes &c. is formed by twisting asbestos yarn into rope form with or without a wire core, cutting off a length with the ends shaped to form a scarf joint, impregnating the material with a synthetic resin or phenol formaldehyde condensation product or other suitable cementitious binder, or with indiarubber solution or latex, shaping the length to ring form, and subjecting it to heat and pressure in a die or mould whereby a hardened, flattened, continuous ring is pro. duced adapted subsequently to be finished or surfaced to required dimensions. When formed with a wire core, the ends thereof may be united by welding or otherwise.
