Abstract

257,852. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Union Special Machine Co.). April 10, 1926. Seams.-A. hem specially suitable for knitted articles is formed by doubling the material at 5 and 6, trimming the free edge 9, turning the trimmed edge under the fold 5 as shown at 11, and inserting a line of stitching through the folds 5 and 11 in such a way that the stitches do not penetrate, or hardly penetrate, the further side of the fabric. When the main part 1 of the fabric is stretched in a line with hemmed portion as shown in Fig. 9 no stitches appear on the one side. A machine adapted for making the seam is described in Specification 257,855.
