Abstract
257,354. Nyblom, A. T. June 4, 1925. Vehicle lamps, directing.-Relates to dirigible headlights adapted to be coupled either to the steering-gear or to a fixed part of the vehicle. In one arrangement, a pin 28 or the like on the vertical shaft 10 of one headlight is engaged normally by the forked end 27 of an arm 26 on a bracket 16, having a spring portion 24, secured to the frame 1 of the vehicle, and a pin-and-slot connection 25 with a collar 14 carrying a rotatable sleeve 13 connected by a link 17 and a rod 19 to an arm 20 on a shaft 21 connected with the steering-gear, the bracket 16 being adapted to be raised by a flexible member 30, operated by a lever on the dashboard, so that the pin 28 is disengaged from the part 27 and engaged in a slot 33 in the sleeve 13. The two headlight shafts 10 are connected together by a rod 22 and links 23 for simultaneous operation. In a modified arrangement the headlights are connected normally to the steering-gear by a sleeve 13<a>, Fig. 7, having a slot engaging the pin 28a. On raising the sleeve 13<a> against the action of a spring 49 by a Bowden cable 47, the sleeve 13<a> is disengaged from the pin 28<a> and a sleeve 41, connected by a pin 42 and slot 43 to the shaft 10, is lifted to engage a projection 44 thereon in a notch 45 in the fixed socket 11 of the shaft 10. In either case, the headlights may be tilted about their pivots 38 against the action of a spiral spring 34, or a clock spring wound about a pivot 38, by a flexible member 36 passing through a hollow shaft 11 or by a Bowden cable passing through a lug on the socket 11, to which the outer casing of the cable is attached, projections 35 on the headlight bearing on the supporting fork 100 in the normal position.
