Abstract
A process for the cleaning of central heating systems comprises a speaker, transducer or other device which travel through the fluid in the system. Rust and debris are disturbed as they are transmitted through the water making it easier to remove them using introduced flow of the water.
Description
Field of the invention:
There are many processes for cleaning the rust and debris (contaminants) out of wet heating systems. They mostly incorporate flowing water to mobilise the rust and debris into the flow path, so that it can be filtered out leaving the system and system water clean/cleaner. One such process is called power flushing, that incorporates a strong pump temporarily connected onto the system or part thereof, the increased flow mobilises the rust and debris so it can be filtered out. This process is very dependent on flow rates and limited to the weight and how hard the contaminants are stuck onto the inside surfaces.
Background of the invention
Cleaning central heating systems can be achieved through several means, mostly these are used in combination to get the best results. Chemicals (such as acids) can be used to break the rust/debris down and loosen it of the inside walls of the heating system. Power flushing uses a temporarily connected strong pump, that increases the flow of water through the system, thereby mobilising the rust/debris into the flow, so that it can be filtered out. Powder flush (Patent GB2489691) is a process whereby and dissolvable abrasive is added to the water while circulating the system water, the introduced solid rubs off, break up and displaces the rust/debris (contaminants). Making it possible to remove more of the condiments. Pulse power flush is a process whereby the flow of water is interrupted. This process utilises turbulence by changes in the velocity of the water to better clean the contaminants from the heating system. All three of these processes are dependant of flow rates and have reduced results under lower flow rates. The other factors that limit these processes are blocked pipes/valves/heat exchangers and contaminants that are large and too heavy move/hard to break down. This invention seeks to improve the effectiveness of cleaning central heating systems by using underwater sound waves to aid in the disturbance of contaminants.
Description and prior art
This invention is for a process that cleans wet central heating systems and the parts connected to it, using sound waves (Acoustic waves). The sound waves are introduced into the heating system via an underwater speaker, a transducer or other such devices. The waves will use the water as a transport medium (as it can't compress) and travel through the internal parts of the heating system. The waves will better (better than just increased flow rates) disturb and mobilise the contaminants in the system, so that they can be removed. The sound waves may be of such a frequency that it utilises the effects of constructive interference/resonance to better mobilise/break down/disturb the contaminants in the heating system, central heating pipes, pump, central heating valves, actuating valves, radiators and boiler. This process may be combined with other processes like power flush, powder flush and pulse power flush to get better results. The water in the heating system may be static or moving/flowing while this process is performed. The frequency may be altered to increase the results. The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
