Abstract
257,085. Fleury, R. de, and Floquet, J. Aug. 5, 1925. Pistons; cooling.-In a piston of the type in which the flow of heat from the crown to the skirt is promoted by forming the inner surface of the crown conical, the apex o, Fig. 2, of the conical surface is arranged at the outer surface of the crown and is truncated. The conical surface may be replaced by a convex or concave conoidal surface. Alternatively, especially in pistons in which the gudgeon-pin bosses merge into the piston crown, the conical surface is replaced by two or by four surfaces of revolution having for directrices a diameter of the piston, or two diameters at right-angles at the outer surface of the crown. Fig. 9 shows the inner surface of the piston crown constituted by two conoidal surfaces ab between the gudgeon-pin bosses e, and two cylindrical surfaces cd, merging into the bosses. Alternatively, the cylindrical surfaces may be replaced by a plane surface. In a modification the inner surface of the piston crown is constituted by a quadrangular pyramid, the apex of which is at the outer surface of the piston crown and is truncated.
