Abstract
An animal stall doorway frame enclosure which comprises two side panels (A), and a front panel (B) which can also be used as a door, is fixed or mounted to animal dwellings, such as a stable, barn or paddock at any available door opening (C). The stall has numerous apertures to allow for ventilation and access to the outdoor environment, while also allowing for the feeding of animals in a more convenient, safe and hygienic manner, by allowing animals to eat from ground level in a more natural position.
Description
An Improved Animal Dwelling Ventilation System, In Particular for Horse Stables,
Field of Invention
The Invention relates to the improvement of the ventilation of animal dwellings, and in particular that of horse stables. The invention can be fixed to new or existing animal dwellings. The invention consists of two side panels, an opening front panel, and an optional top panel. The purpose of the invention is to provide the animal with a more natural, comfortable, and healthy living area.
Background
Currently the most common design for a stable doorway is that of a 'half door system' where in the door way is split in two. Where the top and bottom sections can open and close independently of each other. These doors are usually made of solid materials such as timer or steel or a mixture of the two.
The reasons for this are, first, when the bottom section is closed and top section opened the animal can allow its head out of the stable to breathe the outside fresh air, this is vital for the health and comfort of the animal in most cases horses, and second, the lower section of the door will remain closed to act as a barrier to hold the animal in the stable. A horse constantly produces mucus in their throats which they can clear naturally when their heads are held in a low, natural position so this is not a problem when the animal is stored outdoors.
This leads to the main problem with the afore mentioned 'half door' system which is when the animal is breathing fresh air through the upper opening of the door, the animals head is no longer in its natural position and is unable to clear this mucus. So the mucus tends to build up and can cause the animal discomfort and the possibility of health problems is greatly increased.
If the current systems doors are split lower to alleviate the afore mentioned problem it leads to another problem which is the lower section of the door will no longer acting as an adequate barrier and will allow the animal to pass through.
Another problem with the afore mentioned system is the lack of ventilation provided to the animals dwelling as the bottom door must remain closed, this can lead to the build up of pathogens in the animals environment and in turn increase the probability of health problems with the animal. A further problem with the afore mentioned system occurs when feeding the animal, the feed must be given to the animal inside the dwelling, this can lead to problems with the further introduction of pathogens into the animals living environment which will further increase the probability of health problems.
Statement of Invention
The proposed invention consists of; • Two side panel frames Ά', • An opening front panel 'B'
The two side panels Ά' are fixed to the stable at the either side of the opening, the front panel 'B' is fixed to the side panels Ά'.
These panels are made in such a way to allow the free movement of fresh air through the panels, but still provide a barrier to keep the animal contained within the dwelling. The animal can allow its head out unrestricted into the fresh air at a natural height which allows the animal clear mucus and breathe more naturally.
The side panels are made in such a way that they only allow the animals head to exit the dwelling, this prevents the animal trying to exit fully, trying to turn in, or getting caught in, or a combination of any of the prior mentioned. This is achieved by limiting the width of the side panels 'a' to a distance of 'x', where 'x' is between 229 millimetres and 1435 millimetres in length.
This system also increases ventilation by allowing for more fresh air to enter the animals dwelling, which can reduce the amount of pathogens in the area and in turn reduce the probability of the animal having health problems.
The system also allows for the animal to be fed outside the dwelling in the fresh air which greatly reduces the introduction of pathogens into the animals living area, and reduces the probability of the animal having health problems associated with these pathogens.
Description of Drawings
The present invention is described in the following drawings and these drawing are hereby described below;
Figure 1 is an isometric view of the invention. It incorporates a section of the dwelling (C), side panels Ά', and front panel 'B'
Figure 2 is a side view of the invention. It incorporates a section of the dwelling (C), side panels Ά', and front panel 'B'.
Detailed Description of Drawings
Figure 1 illustrates the invention in an isometric view, where the side panels 'A' are fixed to the dwelling at the door opening (C). The front panel 'B' is fixed to side panels 'A'.
Figure 2 shows a side view of the invention, as shown in Figure 1. This figure illustrates the size of the side panels Ά', which are to be a size of 'x*.
Claims (3)
1. An improved animal stall doorway frame, for the purpose of providing an animal with a more natural habitat, and allowing the animal to perform basic living functions more naturally including but not limited to breathing and eating, whilst being stored securely indoors, made in such a way as to prevent the animal getting stuck or caught.
2. A frame as claimed in claim 1 that provides natural ventilation to the dwelling of the animal without compromising the security of said animal.
3. A frame as claimed in claims 1 and 2 that provides for the feeding of an animal outside the animals dwelling in as close as possible to the way the animal would feed naturally.
