Abstract
256,661. Marks, E. C. R.., (Liptak Fire Brick Arch Co.). April 7, 1925. Walls.-In replaceable inner walls comprising belts of brickwork supported by horizontal rows of shelf-forming blocks anchored in a permanent outer wall as shown in Specifications 168,558 and 201,442, clearance is left for independent vertical expansion and contraction of the belts. The outer wall comprises belts of brickwork 8 between horizontal anchoring channels 10 bolted to buckstays 7, there being channel sheets 13 interposed between the anchoring channels 10 and the buckstays, and metal plates 14 bolted to the sheets 13. The shelf-forming blocks 16 have notches 17<a> adapted to engage ribs 11 on the anchoring channels 10 and are kept in place by wedgeshaped key blocks 18 placed between the blocks 16 and the upper flanges of the anchoring channels. Firebrick belts 15 forming the inner wall are supported on the blocks 16 clearance being left between the top row 17 of each belt and the blocks 16 above, with lap joints at 20 to prevent the flame from passing outward. Air ports 25 are formed in the belts 15 whereby air heated in the channels 24 between the two walls is drawn into the furnace. The metal anchoring channels 10 may be protected by bricks 8<a> and 19.
