Abstract

A device comprises a mast 10 upon which is slideably mounted a carriage 26 with a pair of spaced tines or forks 28 for supporting a pallet thereon, wherein the mast 10 is adapted to be mounted on the boom 2 of an excavator 1 in a vertical orientation. The excavator 1 may comprise a chassis upon which is mounted a boom 2 with a dipper arm 3 pivotally coupled to a distal end of the boom 2 to which dipper arm 3 an implement, such as a bucket 4, may be attached. The mast 10 may be mounted to the boom 10 by means of hooks 16 engaging pins 18 and secured with latch members (20 fig. 3) or the mast 10 may be mounted using pins (22 fig. 4) engaging with holes (24 fig. 4) in mounting plates (25 fig. 4). The mast 10 may include an abutment or support member 14 to engage with the excavator 1 and maintain the vertical orientation of the mast 10. The carriage 26 may be raised and lowered by a ram 32 mounted on the mast 10 or on the excavator 1. Alternatively the carriage 26 may be raised and lowered by a dipper ram 5 acting via a cable 36 and a movable guide pulley 38.
