Abstract

A template to be used for marking equally spaced holes in all four corners in any sheet of material for drilling and fixing and for marking equally spaced holes around external and internal door and window openings comprises a transparent sheet having two series of guidelines at 90 degrees to one another and an aperture to allow a point to be marked through the aperture onto a surface. The template may be acrylic and may include a spirit level.

Background
My research has found that this template tool solves the complications DIY individuals come up against when creating markings evenly spaced on wood, metal, plastic and brickwork in preparation to drill a hole or holes [diagram 5(A)], The template also operates in the same way for fixings and brackets that need to be evenly spaced accurately to the side and above door and window recessed walls for hanging baskets, canopies, awnings, blinds, net wires and curtain poles [diagram 5(B)]. Also the professional tradesman will find this tool faster to use than using a tape measure, pencil, rubber and spirit level when needing to achieve a more accurate location point to the eye.
The Solution
The present invention is to provide a solution by providing a reusable template device that is easy to use by any person skilled or unskilled marking location points for drilling faster with confidence to any panel, furniture & walls etc. that meeting points are at 90 degrees.
Invention
The template works on the vertical and horizontal lines [diagram 2 (metric), diagram 4 (imperial)] being the right angle of a sheet of material or frame that line up to the required measured lines on the template being the right angle where a fixing mark can be made within or outside. This is then rotated by 90 degrees to mark the next corner within a sheet of material or outside of a frame.
Rotating by 90 degrees for each corner will create up to four evenly spaced marks ready for drilling. This method eliminates the requirement of a tape measure to measure twice, various pencil marks where all need to be removed after the final mark is made before drilling. This improves the symmetrical location of the drill hole(s) quickly and easily. The template can also be fitted with a spirit level bubble for more accuracy if starting within a panel or wall space. All manufacturing is based in the UK to be more cost effective for the end user.

The square or rectangular template works efficiently by working from a corner of any flat material that has a vertical and horizontal joint at 90 degrees, where the clear template (with vertical and horizontal guidelines at 90 degrees) clearly reading metric or imperial figures, lines up. This easily moves over the surface to the required dimension to evenly mark using the hole(s) on the template to drill for fixings or brackets. With external and internal door and window openings the template works out from the side and above the recess to evenly mark points for installing fixings and brackets for hanging baskets, canopies, awnings, blinds, net wires and curtain poles.
The template is made from a clear transparent polycarbonate material that has high strength, toughness, heat resistance and very safe to use that will not crack or break. Measuring lines and markers are available in either Metric or Imperial units and they are either digitally printed on UV film and applied to the face or it can be printed directly to the substrate. A 4mm hole is clearly positioned at 0 to place a finishing mark that has been designed to use a sharpie pen for internal works and a spray pen for external works. No breakable parts. This invention cannot be made any other way as the clear part of this template is critical for the measuring lining up to the surface being applied to. Acrylic or glass could be used but can break if dropped that could cause harm to others.

Claims The claim is made on how the template is manufactured, functions, operates and finished design with a single or multiple fixing hole(s) [diagram 1] that operates with the measuring device being clear (transparent) for the right angle (90 degree) guidelines on the template to line up with the internal or external right angle (90 degree) lines of a sheet of material or door or window opening or recess, [diagram 2]
