AN EYEBROW SHAPING DEVICE
Field of Invention
The invention relates to a device for facial hair shaping and maintenance and in particular to a guide device for shaping and maintenance of eyebrows.
Summary of Invention
According to the present invention there is provided an eyebrow shaping device comprising: a handle and a head, the handle is elongate and includes a comb for combing the eyebrow and the head includes a threaded portion that extends between two points on the head such that the thread is substantially orthogonal the handle.
In a preferred embodiment the eyebrow shaping device is used as an aid to groom eyebrows using the comb; to shape eyebrows by providing a guide to correctly shape the eyebrows; and to assist in plucking eyebrows by way of the threaded portion.
Ideally the handle is shaped and dimensioned so as to be of sufficient length so that in use it extend between a subject’s eyebrow and their nose. In this way the eyebrow shaping device can be aligned to indicate preferred eyebrow dimensions and shape. For example a line extending from one side of the nose to an outer edge of the eye should correspond to an end of the eyebrow.
Preferably the eyebrow shaping device has a D-shaped head comprising a C-shaped section with a threaded portion extending between the two points that define opposed ends of the C-shape and together with the thread define the D-shape. The threaded portion can be used for threading to permit controlled removal of hair by plucking.
In a preferred embodiment the handle extends from one of the points from which the threaded portion extends such that the handle extends away from the thread. In this way the handle is arranged at an end of the threaded portion and the head extends from a side of the handle. In this way the head can be positioned close to or over the eye and the handle is held away from this region to one side. Advantageously this arrangement provides improved visibility in use as the handle, and thereby the user’s hand, does not block the user’s line of vision, for example in a mirror.
In another embodiment the handle extends centrally from the head. For example the handle extends from a mid-point along the C-shaped section, between the two end Points of the C-shaped section. In this way the location of the handle corresponds to a substantially central region of the threaded portion.
In a preferred embodiment the comb is arranged at an end of the handle. In this way the eyebrow shaping device can be held by the head or by an opposed end of the handle so as to permit combing of the eyebrows by holding the device in a different orientation so as to present the comb to the eyebrow.
In some embodiments the eyebrow shaping device includes guide markings to assist a user to position the eyebrow shaping device in order to help with eyebrow shaping.
In some embodiments guide markings are disposed on the eyebrow shaping device and comprise a measuring scale thereby enabling the user to measure parts of the face or eyebrow to shape the eyebrows as symmetrically as possible.
In some embodiments of the eyebrow shaping a tab is included. The tab is a substantially planar portion that extends from the handle to aid with holding and manipulating the eyebrow shaping device.
The eyebrow shaping device may include an indentation for placement of branding. For example the handle may include a flattened region for imprinting, embossing, or etching a logo.
Preferably the eyebrow shaping device is form from a synthetic plastics material. In some embodiments the handle is formed from a hollow thermoplastic. In this way the device is lightweight and uses minimal material.
In some embodiments the eyebrow shaping device is intended for single use. Ideally the device may be made from recyclable materials.
Preferred embodiments of the eyebrow shaping device will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the Figures in which:
Brief Description of Figures

Figure 2 shows a second isometric view ofthe embodiment shown in Figure 1;

Figures 4 show diagrammatic views of a second embodiment of the device according to the present invention, in use and;
Figure 5 shows an isometric view of a third embodiment of the device according to the present invention.
Detailed Description of the Embodiment
With reference to the Figures there is shown an embodiment of an eyebrow shaping device 1000 for facial hair maintenance comprising a handle 2 and a head 33, which head 3 is arranged for plucking strands of hair.
The device 1000 as a whole is arranged to subdivide, measure and frame a face, so as to better enable precise, parallel and symmetrical plucking or maintenance.
In this way the device may allow a user to follow the points of a subject’s eyebrow and mark each point using an eyebrow pencil, such that the user can then wax the eyebrows. Once waxing is completed the user may use the device to tweeze/pluck away any remaining hairs identified to be out of place.
The handle 2 in the pictured embodiments comprises a thermoplastics or polymer body. Other embodiments may be formed from an alloy or a metal.
The device according to the present invention comprises the following:
- A handle 2 providing a straight edge which can be used to reference lines on a face between the nose 300, outer edge of the cornea and corner of the eye 200, and form corresponding points of the eyebrow 400.
- A head 33 providing a thin stretched thread 4 supported at its end 5 and orthogonal the handle 2, which can be used to divide the eyebrow area visually up into sections which need to be removed and sections which need to be preserved.
- Marked measurements on the handle which can be used to ensure both eyebrows are equal.
- A comb 1 which may be used to comb eyebrows through before shaping and/or after, for example tidying the look of the eyebrow before and after any waxing and plucking.
The handle 2 is an elongate substantially rigid part describing a handle axis B.
In the first pictured embodiment the head 33 comprises an orthogonally extending D shape, with a curved lower limb 3 with a distal end 5 joined orthogonal the handle axis by the linear thread 4. In the second pictured embodiment the head 33 comprises an orthogonally extending D shape centrally connected to the handle.
The head describes an orthogonal head axis A.
The handle has guide markings along one side (not shown).
In this way the user can measure and define the key parts of the eyebrow using the client's facial features and can utilise the straight lines on the device to shape eyebrows so as to create perfect lines when waxing, threading and plucking; as shown in Figures 3 and 4.
A single insert injection moulding process may be used to produce the entire embodiment to keep manufacturing costs low.
The thread may be used to identify hairs to pluck after waxing, and guide the user on which hairs require plucking to complete a desired shape.
The measuring scale allows the user to ensure that the eyebrows are symmetrical.
The comb finishes the look to neaten the eyebrow and ensure no hairs have been missed.
In this way the eyebrow shaping device 1000 thereby provides a handheld device that assists a brow technician, including trainees, in helping them to carry out eyebrow shaping so that the user can measure and define key parts of an eyebrow using the client's facial features.
The first two pictured embodiments are envisaged as single-use disposable embodiments which is shaped to allow the user to place the device over the brow area without obscuring the client's eye.
To reduce cost of the product and allow it to be sold in large batches it could be insert injection moulded. This single process will complete the whole production of the device including the thread, similar to the method of producing floss sticks.
In some embodiments an extension to the handle may make the device easier to hold.
For example with reference to the third embodiment the embodiment features an orthogonally extending tab 16 from the handle 12 at an intermediate point on the side of the handle 12.
The tab 16 is slightly thinner than the handle 12 to prevent the therapist pressing too hard against the client’s face, allowing the user to hold the handle 12 halfway up giving an easier way to hold the device to the client’s face and against their nose without causing discomfort. An indentation on the handle tab gives placement for branding.
With reference to the embodiment shown in Figure 5 the handle is formed in hollow thermoplastics with embossed markings 17, and a head support arm 13 extending sidewards with a thread 14 strung from its end to the handle end.
With reference to Figures 3:
Figure 3a - It is easy to follow two lines to the point to mark for the eyebrow.
Figure 3b - The placement of the mark relies on estimation of the centre point of the thread.
Figure 3c - If the embodiment were placed at an angle completed eyebrows may be given the wrong look to also make measurements difficult to use.
With reference to Figures 4, showing a centrally located handle extending away from the lower limb of the head:
Figure 4a - It is easy to follow two lines to the point to mark for the eyebrow.
Figures 4b and 4c - The centre line of the embodiment may be easier to set vertical so that it runs parallel along the line of the nose.
Figure 4d - When trying to mark the end of the eyebrow the embodiment may be difficult to use to mark the correct location as the user would have to again guess where the centre of the thread was in order to make the mark.
The invention has been described by way of examples only and it will be appreciated that variation may be made to the above-mentioned embodiments without departing from the scope of invention as defined by the claims.
