Description

A Vehicle Seat Support
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a vehicle seat support for use in vehicles such as cars, vans, or lorries. In particular, the present invention relates to a vehicle support for minimising or preventing loss of personal belongings when seated within a vehicle.
Background
When seated in a vehicle, it is possible for personal belongings to be accidentally dropped or to fall out of a user’s clothing and become lost within narrow gaps located between the vehicle seat and other components of the vehicle, or within gaps between the back rest and seat portion of the vehicle seat. Due to the size restrictions of the gaps it becomes difficult to retrieve the lost belongings.
Prior Art US 2015/0076872 (Carithers et al) discloses a liner for catching items that fall between seat cushions. The liner is adapted to be removably received within the gap between the seat cushions and is arranged to provide a cavity for catching loose items.
The present invention arose in order to overcome problems suffered by existing devices.
Summary of the Invention
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a seat support for use with a vehicle seat comprising: a lumbar support portion arranged in use to be positioned adjacent a backrest of a vehicle seat; a pair of spaced apart arm supports, each arm support being arranged in use to be positioned adjacent a side portion of a seat portion of a vehicle seat; and a support frame attached to each of the lumbar support portion and the pair of spaced apart arm supports, wherein the position and/or orientation of one or more of the lumbar support portion and arm supports, relative to the vehicle seat, are independently adjustable.
In contrast to the prior art therefore the present invention provides a vehicle seat support which restricts or prevents access to gaps provided between seat cushions or other components of the vehicle so as to minimise any risk of belongings becoming lost or trapped while travelling within a vehicle.
The support frame, lumbar support portion, and the pair of spaced apart arm supports are preferably provided as a single, integral unit. It is however to be understood that the vehicle seat support may be provided as a plurality of separate modular units which are capable of being assembled to provide the vehicle seat support.
The support frame may be composed of any suitable material. For example, the support frame may be formed from sheet steel. The support frame is preferably composed of strong material which is capable of providing a degree of flexibility with respect to the position of the component parts of the vehicle seat support/
At least one arm support is preferably rotatable about at least one axis relative to the lumbar support portion. Each arm support preferably comprises a first end located adjacent the lumbar support portion and a second opposed free end. A longitudinal axis preferably extends between the first and second ends of the arm support. Each arm support preferably provides an upper contact surface for receiving an arm of a user. In one embodiment at least one arm support is rotatable about an axis extending within the plane of the upper contact surface and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the arm support. In a further embodiment, at least one arm support is rotatable about an axis extending perpendicular to the plane of the upper contact surface and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the arm support.
Each arm support may comprise a first portion for engagement with the support frame, and a second portion for providing an upper contact surface.
