Abstract

255,961. Moulden, J. C., Taplin, B., and Metals Production, Ltd. May 2, 1925. Flotation processes.-In the heat treatment and concentration of copper ores described in Specification 250,991, [Class 82 (i), Metals, Extracting &c.], in which the ore is heated with solid carbonaceous matter in the presence of halogen, the copper obtained is separated from the treated material by froth-flotation. Particles of a size such as to interfere with the flotation are eliminated by screening or water-classification, or the material may be ground to reduce the coarse particles to the required fineness. The size of the particles to be removed may be determined by experiment, but, in general, particles greater than one fortieth of an inch in diameter should be removed. When the heat treatment is carried out with agitation, as for example in a rotating retort., the copper tends to collect into aggregates, which may be wholly or partially disintegrated by grinding or agitation, when the coarse barren material may be removed by screening and the remaining fines subjected to flotation. Alternatively the material may be screened so that the copper aggregates are retained in the screen while still whole and may then be disintegrated and concentrated by flotation.
