Abstract

A wristband 2 may be cooled to below the freezing point of liquid contained in multiple compartments Fig 2, 2. The wristband may be secured to a users arm via a pin buckle 1, similar to that of a watch strap. Multiple holes for adjustment are provided Fig 2. In use the band is worn whilst exercising to cool the wearer. The substance in the compartment thaws during use and becomes liquid at room temperature. The cooling media may be the same as used in refrigerator ice packs.

Description

Abstract Title: Freezable exercise wristband with compartments for cooling fluid (57) A wristband 2 may be cooled to below the freezing point of liquid contained in multiple compartments Fig 2, 2. The wristband may be secured to a user’s arm via a pin buckle 1, similar to that of a watch strap. Multiple holes for adjustment are provided Fig 2. In use the band is worn whilst exercising to cool the wearer. The substance in the compartment thaws during use and becomes liquid at room temperature. The cooling media may be the same as used in refrigerator ice packs.

Freezeband
This invention relates to a band which when frozen and subsequently correctly attached to the wrist will regulate a human's body temperature whilst said person is engaging in high intensity activity (such as running, cycling or other similar activities). When people are participating in exercise and / or sport or are engaging in high intensity activities then their body temperatures can rise exponentially. This can inhibit a person's performance and / or endurance in their chosen activity. This is especially so when conducting said activities in hot temperatures.
Quite often, during or immediately after high intensity activity, people who experience high body temperatures as a result of having participated in said high intensity activity will elect to regulate their body temperature through exposure to cold temperatures using a variety of methods (such as the application of ice or cold water to their wrists). After a few minutes said person's body temperature will often cool down as a result of this action.
The problem is that these methods and other similar methods are not always available continuously throughout a phase of exercise or activity. Moreover, such cooling methods are not always conducive to mobile activities. To overcome these problems, the present invention proposes a light-weight wrist band which can be easily attached to either wrist in a similar fashion to that of a watch strap. It is also anticipated that the band is capable of hosting a watch should an individual elect to attach a watch to the band.

It is envisaged that the band will be filled with a composite chemical solution in the form of a refrigerant fluid similar to that which is used in ice packs. However, the proposed invention will differ from a traditional ice pack in a number of key ways. The first difference between an ice pack which covers the wrist and the proposed invention is that the proposed invention will be lightweight and significantly smaller in size than conventional ice packs designed for use on the wrist. Another key difference between the proposed invention and a conventional ice pack for the wrist is that the proposed invention attaches to the wrist in a different way to an ice pack in the sense that it fits to the wrist in the same way a wristwatch strap attaches to wrist. However, the principal difference between the proposed invention and an ice pack for use on the wrist is that the proposed invention is designed for use during high intensity activity and to regulate an individual's body temperature during same. Ice packs are typically different to this in the sense that they are designed to ease muscle / tendon pain as would typically be the case for an ice pack for the wrist.
The invention can be placed inside a freezer prior to exercise or activity and will be used when fully frozen. When used, due to the refrigerant fluid contained within the band, it is envisaged that the contents of the band will not fully melt for a sustainable period during exercise or activity. This will then ensure that when properly attached, a person can use this invention during the full phase of exercise / activity or part thereof. The invention may also have application in the workplace both in a civilian and potentially military context where high intensity activity may cause high body temperatures and affect performance.
Figure 1 shows the band itself from the side angle in the inverted position as it would attach to the wrist. Point 1 shows the buckle or connection unit which fastens the band to the wrist in precisely the same manner a watch strap is attached to a wrist. Point 2 shows the band itself which is wrapped around the wrist.
Figure 2 shows the band laid out flat at full length with the buckle at the top end at point 1. Point 2 shows how the band will be separated into segments which will each contain refrigerant fluid. Point 3 shows one of the adjustment holes. Points 4 shows the location of one of the free loops. Points 5 and 6 shows an intersection of the segments which will not be filled with any fluid but will be flexible enough to bend the band around the wrist to suit the individual's wrist shape and comfort.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of one of the segments of the band. Point 1 shows the interior of the segment which is where the fluid will be stored in each self contained segment. Figure 2 shows the exterior of the band which will be sealed permanently to ensure no leakage of the fluid contained within each segment.

Claims (4)

1. A Freezeband comprising a band of multiple self-contained and sealed segments (at point 2 of Figure 2) each of which contain a fluid conducive to being frozen to a temperature of below zero degrees Celsius (at point 1 of Figure 3) and each of which said segments (at point 2 of Figure 2) are bordered by flexible intersections (at point 5 of Figure 2) interconnecting each segment to the next segment of said band and after which said band is cooled to a temperature of below zero degrees Celsius such band will bend around and fasten to a human wrist by way of inserting the tail end of said band (ot point 6 of Figure 2) through a buckle frame at (point 1 of Figure 2) and tightening and adjusting said band to suit said wrist size or shape by inserting and connecting a buckle prong contained within the frame of said buckle (at point 1 of Figure 2) through adjustment holes (at point 3 of Figure 2).
2. A Freezeband which further to Claim 1 when attached to a human wrist will be lightweight for use during high intensity activity and will not come undone from said wrist without undoing the buckle.

3. A Freezeband which further to Claim 1 has loopholes so that the tail section and excess of the band which is inserted through the buckle frame is neatly tucked under the loopholes (at point 4 of Figure 2) when properly fastened to the wrist in accordance with Claim 1.
4. A Freezeband which when cooled to a temperature of below zero degrees Celsius and properly fitted to a human wrist in accordance with Claim 1 and to the extent that it is in physical contact with a human being's skin on the underside of said wrist will cool the blood within the unal and radial arteries and surrounding blood vessels surrounding a human wrist by means of absorption or reverse conduction of a human body's heat by virtue of the physical application and proximity of frozen segments to said arteries and blood vessels.
