Abstract

A drinks bottle cap is provided with a container 2 in which a plurality of tablets, pills or capsules may be stored. The bottle cap may be selectively attached or removed from a container that may hold water or a beverage. Tablets may be selectively delivered to the bottle by depressing a push button 3 that acts against a spring 4. As the tablet is forced toward the bottle a one way silicon membrane 5 is ruptured and the tablet falls into the bottle. The interior of the cap may be accessed via a hinged lid Fig 2, 1 and 2. The entire cap assembly may be removed to allow the bottle to be refilled. The device is intended to promote multiple uses of the cap and bottle and to allow a range of flavoured tablets or medicines to be placed in the cap.

Title
Drink bottle cap with tablet/substance compartment and release mechanism.
Background
The invention aims to address the growing issue of people not drinking enough water. Individuals are often tempted by the more flavoursome, often sugary or caffeinated alternatives. This is having an increasingly negative impact on our health. This product aims to make re-hydration:
Full of flavour
Healthier - can add vitamins Convenient - adding flavour and vitamins on-the-go Safer - promotes safe refilling of water bottles Environmentally friendly - reduces waste
Today, if you want to add flavour or vitamins to your water on-the-go, you must carry a separate container or tube with you. Then open it to add to your drink. With this invention, all of these steps are designed into a single drinks bottle cap, thus negating the need to remember to carry any additional items.
The invention promotes safe refilling of water because current on-the-go flavour options encourage the reuse of standard water bottles. These bottles are often not designed for reuse and can leach harmful chemicals into the water, which are consumed by the user. The invention uses safe plastics which are specifically manufactured for multiple use.
The invention is also much more environmentally friendly than many other products in the drinks market, as it significantly reduces the amount of plastic bottle waste per person, due to its reuse capabilities.
Statement of invention
This drinks bottle cap will replace the need to carry a separate container with, or buy another drink from a store. This is achieved by combining the two elements of flavour/vitamins and a drinks bottle cap to form a single mechanism. Also, uniquely, this process of re-flavouring can be repeated 8 times.
Advantage
The bottle cap enables the user to add flavour and vitamins to their drink to make their hydration more flavoursome and healthier.
The key advantage is that the user does not need to remember to carry an extra container to add flavour and vitamins to their drink. This is very convenient for the user in their busy, active lifestyles.
This bottle cap promotes safe re-filling of water. Individuals who reuse standard plastic bottles multiple times run the risk if in-taking various harmful chemicals that leach out from the plastics. These bottles are not designed to be reused, whereas this invention is.
This drinks bottle is environmentally friendly. As it is essentially 8 drinks in one bottle, the amount of waste is significantly reduced.
There are many beneficial uses for the bottle in addition to adding flavour and vitamins. The compartment within the bottle cap can be filled with proteins and supplements for fitness work, shakes and smoothies for dieting and medical tablets or powders within hospitals/care homes for greater ease of administration. The quantity and timing of dosages could be easily managed with this invention due to its simple pre-preparation capabilities, as well as its space and time saving mechanism. In addition, if the user has an effervescent tablet/substance container which they use regularly and are familiar with, this too can be inserted into the tube/container for convenient use.
One example of carrying out the claimed invention is for school children to bring the bottle with them to class. The children can refill their water bottles using the water machines in the corridors during break, lunch or the designated water break. Then they can choose to add flavour/vitamins whenever they want over a number of days.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment(s) as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claim or claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.
The invention is susceptible to industrial production as market research has suggested there is a very large demand and need to get the population drinking more water, and less of the sugary, caffeinated drinks. The invention will improve the health of many target groups including school children, university students, sports people, gym goers, office workers and people travelling the world. The invention also can be used in other types of industry, such as medical, where medical tablets and powders which are usually consumed with water can be delivered using the bottle. Also, the flavour/vitamins tablets can be replaced with filtration tablets for use in area of unsafe water.
Detailed description - reference Fig 1. and Fig. 2 - (figure no. and label no.)
The structure of the bottle cap will be a standard cylindrical shape (1 -1) and will have an opening for consumption of water, which is sealed by the hinged lid (2 -1). This prevents the drink from leaking when not in use. The bottle cap screws onto the main bottle container.
The tube/container is built into the bottle cap (1 - 2). As can be seen in the drawing the contents of the tube can be released in one of two ways:
1) By lifting up the hinged circular lid (2 - 2), the user can pick out the tablet or tip out the substance into the container. To prevent water from entering through the lid and in the tube, the lid has a thin water seal (2 - 3).
2) By pressing the button (1 - 3 & 2 - 4), which will push down the spring and plunger (1 - 4) down on top of the tablets in the tube. This pressure will force through the bottom tablet or substance through the one-way silicon membrane (1 - 5). This will also prevent any water coming up into the tube. The user will see the tablet/substance drop into the water container (1 - 6).
In order to refill the bottle, the user can unscrew the cap by gripping the whole cap and turning anticlockwise as the entire mechanism is contained within the cap as a single unit.

Claims (4)

Claims
1. A tablet/substance release mechanism within a drinks bottle cap with a tube container (1-2)
2. A tablet/substance release mechanism with a tube container according to claim 1, will be either opened using the hinged lid (2-2) or triggered through a spring -loaded push-button (1-4) by the user.
3. The two release mechanisms according to claim 2, will have sealed watertight openings (2-3 & 1-5), through which the tablet or substance will drop through into the water for reflavouring.
4. The tube container (1-2) according to claim 1, can be refilled or completely replaced by an alternative tube/container, so is therefore detachable.
