Abstract
The brick comprises ports on each face 1 which pass through the body of the brick such that when grout is pumped in to any one of the ports it will exit each of the other brick faces via the ports. There may be different sized ports within the body. Each face may have a number of ports. The brick may be cast or kiln fired. The brick may be used in the replacement or repair of bridge or tunnel linings. An existing brick may be removed, then the ported brick placed in the required position, then a grout gun applied to the port on the open face to pump in grout which discharges through the ports and into the mortar space between the existing bricks and the replacement ported brick. This gets sufficient grout in to the joints between the bricks whilst a bricklayer holds the replacement ported brick in place.

DESCRIPTION
The Ported Brick consists of a brick with ports within the brick body leading from the outer exposed face of the brick to each of the other faces of the brick.
This Invention relates to a Brick, Cast or Kiln fired so formed that:It enables full grout embedment between it, the ported brick and the adjacent bricks in a masonry structure.
When bricks are removed from, for example a tunnel lining or bridge lining for the purpose of replacement/repair, it is very difficult to replace the bricks that have been removed due to the work being carried out above the head of the Bricklayer. The problem is getting sufficient grout in to the joints between each brick-to-brick interface whilst holding the bricks in place.
With the brick placed in the required position a Grout Gun (means of placing grout) is applied to the port on the open face of the brick. Grout is then pumped in to the port which via the distribution ports discharges in to the mortar space between the adjacent bricks and the ported brick filling the mortar space.
OPTIONAL FEATURES
The ported brick may have different sizes of porting within the single brick body. This is to ensure for example, that the first grout space to be filled is on a particular face of the brick such as the back face of the brick making it easier to hold the brick in position whilst the remaining grout spaces are filled.
It is also an option as to the number of ports per brick face.
Figure I shows a ghosted image of the brick with ports leading to each face (1).
Claims (1)
- A Ported Brick comprising of a brick ‘the brick being cast and, or Kiln fired’. The ‘Brick’ has ports which pass through the general body of the brick to each of the brick faces. When Grout is pumped in to any one of the ports it will exit on each of the other brick faces via the port on that face.IntellectualPropertyOfficeApplication No: GB1613933.9 Examiner: Mr Joshua Nolan
