Abstract
255,325. May, J. W. Jan. 9, 1926. Foot-arch supports .-A shoe is provided with a leather insole 2, Figs. 1 and 2, forming a permanent part thereof shaped to present a convex arch-supporting portion 4 between its side edges which are secured to the shoe parts spanning the concavity of said arch. The arched shape of the insole is maintained by the way in which it is secured in the shoe and not by any pad or other supporting element. The support 4 may have any desired shape or location in the shoe. In the example shown, the part 4 is wider at its forward end, and the front face 50, Fig. 5, has a more abrupt slope than the face 51. This shape supports the meta-tarsal arch and also the longitudinal arch of the foot. The arch support can be formed in any suitable way as by placing the insole between male and female dies. When the insole blank is moulded before it is trimmed a pattern 10. Fig. 6, may be used with a recess 11 to receive the arch 4. The arch then is properly placed on relation to the finished outline of the insole. After being shaped the insole is reinforced by a support 53 of canvas spanning the concavity 7 and cemented or otherwise secured in position. The reinforced insole is then incorporated in the shoe.
