255,312. Ellis, G. B., (Anthracite Separator Co.). Dec. 18, 1925. Density separators. - A spiral separator for coal has a feeding shoot secured to the runway and of variable inclination to it so that the velocity of the material supplied may be controlled. In the form shown three spiral runways 11, 12, 13 are employed and are provided at their lower ends with adjustable division plates 14. These plates are pivoted to the runways and are simultaneously adjusted by the lever 14a which can be locked to the fixed plate 14d. A separate lever can be provided for each plate if desired. Feed shoots 15, 16, 17 are pivoted to the upper ends of the runways and are attached to a bar 18 linked to a lever 20 on a pivot 21. The inclination of the shoots may be varied by the manual operation of the link 22 which may then be locked to the post 25. The top shoot 15 has openings 26, 27 through which material passes to the runways 16, 17 respectively. The material is fed into a bin 30 with a discharge opening 34 the area of which is varied by a sliding gate 35 operated by a rod 38. From the opening 34 the material falls on to a shaking table 40 supported on flexible planks 45, 46 and shaken by means of an eccentric 50. A bar agitator 49 is secured to the upper side of the table and enters the outlet 34 to prevent clogging. Any number of spiral runways may be employed, and, as shown in Fig. 7, adjustable shoots 15<c>, 15<d> may be arranged side by side to supply material to separators arranged in parallel.
