Abstract

255,301. Albion Motor Car Co., Ltd.. and watt, J. Dec. 2, 1925. Force-transmitting mechanism; compensating for wear.-In steering-wheel brake mechanism of the kind comprising actuating arms mounted respectively on the anchor plate and on the front axle and connected by a link, the link is arranged to be parallel to the steering axis when the wheel is in the straight line position so that when the wheels are deflected from this position the brakes tend to come off and there is no risk of their being self-applied. The link 12 has a ball-andsocket connection 14, 15 with the arms 5, 11 secured respectively to the cam or like spindle 4 and an operating shaft 10 mounted on the front axle 8. The arms 5, 11 are angularly adjustable on the spindle and shaft and are adapted to be clamped thereto with the aid of serrations as shown. The link 12 is also adjustably connected to the arm 5 by means of a screwed spindle 17 to permit of adjustment of the brake shoes to com. pensate for wear, the inclination of this spindle being such that the adjustment does not appreciably displace the link. The link is disposed parallel to the pivot axis 00 of the wheel when the wheel is in the straight-line position and preferably also the lines XX, YY passing through the ends of the link and the axes of the spindle 4 and shaft 10 are substantially parallel so that the link remains parallel to the axis 00 during the actuation of the brake. Deflection of the wheel in either direction for steering causes down. ward movement of the arm 5 thus tending to take off the brake.
