Ball and like mills.-In a modification of the tube mill of the parent Specification, the radial sifting and separating walls in the sifting space surrounding the transfer spaces between the coarse and fine grinding compartments are inclined to the axis of the drum of the mill. The sieves may be removable from the sifting space from the outside, and the annular space containing the sieves may be wider than the two transfer chambers. Fig. 6 shows the inclined walls and sifting walls m in the annular space k, Fig. 1, surrounding the transfer spaces c, d. Slits z<1> in the shell allow the sieves m to be inserted and removed, and are provided with sliding or pivoted covers. The chambers of the transfer spaces and the sifting-spaces s are in communication through openings n, o and the walls l, m, may extend from the openings n, o, in a tangential or approximately tangential direction as shown in Fig. 7.
