Description

Electrical Back Box
This invention relates to an electrical box and in particular to an electrical back box, housing, or receptacle having a moveable conical threaded securement means in which threaded screws can be easily connected and located for the purposes of securing a face plate on to said electrical box.
Electrical boxes are an essential part of eveiy electrical installation and are used to mount and secure electrical accessory faceplates such as sockets, switches, fused and non-fused connection units, cooker control panels, flash mounted computer network points and telephone points.
It is commonly known that electrical boxes come in a variety of different widths, heights and depths in both metal and plastic. It is also commonly known that the securement between the electrical box and faceplates is provided by two holed flanges located on the internal walls of the electrical box. Such flanges providing a means in which threaded screws passing through the faceplate can locate with the holes of the flanges and provide a threaded securement between the faceplate with the electrical box.
It is commonly known, particularly in new7 installations that back boxes are often mounted deep into the wall and some distance from the finished wall surface and in particular the faceplate of the electrical accessory to be connected to it. This distance often means locating the threaded screws with the hole flanges on the electrical box is difficult, as the faceplate obscures the installer’s vision of the hole flange and the end of the threaded screw. This means the installer often has to guess and make several attempts in order to locate the threaded screw in the hole of the electrical box flange.
It is also commonly known that due to the current construction of the present inventions, cables / wires contained within and which flow in and out of an electrical box often position themselves in such a way that the installer has to take particular care in ensuring the threaded screws do not pierce or damage any of the cables / wires whilst securing an electrical accessory faceplate, particularly if the cables / wires have positioned themselves underneath the holed flanges located on the internal walls of the electrical box.
It is therefore the intention of the present invention to provide an electrical box that addresses the disadvantages of the present inventions, in particular providing a means in which cables / wires are prevented from occupying space within the interior walls of the electrical box that would expose the cables / wires from being pierced or damaged by a threaded screw or similar; and a means in which a threaded screw or similar can easily locate the threaded portion of an electrical box.
According to the invention, there is provided an electrical box comprising of a first member a electrical box including a plurality of wails defining an interior space for housing of an electrical device e.g. electrical accessory faceplates such as sockets, switches, fused and non-fused connection units, cooker control panels, flash mounted computer network points and telephone points. The plurality of walls include four side walls and a back wall orthogonal to said side walls. Said side walls and back wall including the means in which openings can be made to allow access to the interior space of the electrical box, and at least one side wall comprising of two protrusions which extend inwardly towards the interior space of the electrical box, such protrusions being provided to secure a conical threaded fastener for the purposes of securing an electrical device to the electrical box via a threaded screw7 or similar. A second member, a threaded fastener comprising of a vertical member consisting on top side, a conical portion for locating with a screw or similar, a channel means w7hich extends centrally vertically downwardly from the conical portion of the vertical member, a threaded insert w7hich is housed within the channel for the purposes of providing a threaded securement means between the fastener and a threaded screw or similar, on underside thereof vertical member at least one vertical protrusion which extends downwardly from the underside of the vertical member for the purposes of locating with a slot on the back wall of the first member, at least one horizontal member which extends orthogonal outwardly from the upper portion of the vertical member, such horizontal member locating and securing underneath the protrusions of the first member.
