Abstract

An impulse driven rotor controlled continuously variable transmission which includes an output transmission and a plurality of cyclically operated parallel loading stages which successively deliver drive from the rotor, via respective one-way clutches, to the output transmission, and wherein the rotor, for each operating ratio, is shaped to compensate for a respective loss of angular displacement for each stage, due to torque twist which is associated with stiffness of the stage, thereby to produce a smooth and constant output from the output transmission.
