Abstract

A validation system using statistical techniques, supported by a rule based engine, to validate any number and types of data from any source. It may also use calibration and maintenance history in the validation process. The system may use SQC and SPC techniques and may store date within databases.

Description

Advanced Data Validation System By Issam Wadi
Acronyms •DCS: Distributed Control System •SCADA: Supervisory Control& Data i •PLC: Programmable Logic Controller •LIMS: Lab Information Management System •RTDB: Real Time Database •MBDR: Mass Balance Data Reconciliation •PM: Performance Management •PA: Production Accounting •OM: Operations Management •SQC: Statistical Quality Control •SPC: Statistical Process Control
System Description •The system is based on advanced software connected to different systems and sources of data, used to monitor any number of on-line data coming from any data source or measurement e.g. RTDB, DCS, SCADA, LIMS, etc., and advise users on the validity of each reading, data or measurement. The system shall advise on both special cause errors (Gross) and Random errors if exceeded allowable limits that are configurable in the system. The System uses advanced SQC, SPC and Rules-Based engine to analyze, and judge any measurement and or readings at any moment in any plant or organization. This validation concept is based on the uses Data Fusion & Analysis concepts.
The system shall enhance confidence in existing metering systems, reduces unnecessary calibration and maintenance plus enhances the performance of any system uses such validated data such as accounting systems, performance management systems, operations systems, maintenance systems and others. •

Claims (1)

  1. Claims •System can be used to validate all types of data and measurements irrespective of source. •System will help increase confidence in other systems who need such data e.g. MBDR, PA, PM, OM. •System used to validate any measurement or data used at industrial plants. •Validates data from different sources such as meters, analyzers, DCS systems, PLCs, RTDB systems, LIMS etc. •Validates data from any number of sources and measurements. •Validates both real time data, near real time data and batch data. •Uses SQC and SPC techniques combined with directional correlation between the data to be validated and corresponding process data beside correlation with suitable parameters (if available). •Uses fusion to merge all the above results into one rule based engine. •Uses Rule based engine to judge and validate the results of above calculations and checks to conclude on the data being validated. •Can define time window for the validation period. •Stores the validation results in suitable database to be used by other systems as needed. •The system is fully configurable . •The system checks also calibration and maintenance history as input to the Rule Based engine. •Using all above techniques fused into one system including some novel concepts shall guarantee high degree of accuracy of the validation process. •First time such validation with such advanced techniques used to prepare data for other systems. •Most existing validation systems use simple tests or SQC to check data and most for specific tasks and applications but not for all important and critical data. •System is flexible so if some validation calculations are not applicable, these can be skipped. •Validation result is presented in simple language and easy to understand,. •Confidence level of the validation can be provided and reported as well
