Abstract
A lockable container with a ground engaging anchor comprising a container having a base 20 and a lid 30, and a ground screw 10 having a screw head 12 and a ground engaging tail 11. The base of the container has securement means 26, 13 to secure the screw head 12 to the base 20, and the lid has a lock 32 to secure the lid to the base. Preferably the base has a raised profile 23 with a recess to receive the screw head 12, and the screw head 12 is secured via a pin 26 that passes though the raised profile 23 and the screw head 12. The lock 32 of the lid may engage with the raised profile 23 in the base. To prevent the base 20 rotating once the ground screw 10 has been engaged with the ground and the base secured to the ground screw 10, ground engaging pegs 28 may be passed through the apertures in the base 29 and engage with the ground at an angle.
Description
Title: Novel Safe
I
The present invention relates to a novel safe.
When camping, valuables such as wallets, keys and phones, are vulnerable. It is very easy for a thief to cut open a tent and remove these valuables. Similar problems occur when enjoying other outdoor activities such as being on the beach.
The invention seeks to provide a portable safe to secure valuables.
According to the present invention there is provided a safe comprising: a) a ground screw having a tail to insert in the ground and a screw head, b) a base, c) securement means to secure the screw head to the base, and d) a lid with a lock to secure the lid to the base and cover the securement means to prevent the base from being unsecured from the screw head when the lid is secured to the base.
Preferably the base has a projection with a recess to receive the screw head. Preferably the securement means includes a pin to pass through at least one aperture in the projection wall and a hole in the screw head.
Preferably the lid has a lock to engage with the base projection.
Preferably the base is adapted to sit on the ground.
Preferably the base is adapted to receive ground engaging pegs to prevent the base from being rotated. Preferably the pegs are angled so that they dig into the ground to draw the base into the ground.
Preferably the base is generally circular and the lid substantially hemispherical.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a safe, and Figure 2 shows a truncated view of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings there is shown a safe 1.
Safe 1 has a helical ground screw 10 having a tail 11 to insert in the ground and a screw head 12. Head 12 has a hole in the form of a ring 13. A circular base 20 is provided with a downwardly extending peripheral circular flange 21 and an upwardly extending peripheral circular flange 22. Base has an upward central projection 23 with a recess 24 to receive the screw head 12. Projection 23 has a plurality of indexing wall apertures 25. A tapered pin 26 on a tether 27 is adapted to pass through a pair of opposing wall apertures 25 in the projection wall and ring 13 in the screw head 12. Pin 26, ring 13 and apertures 25 form securement means to secure the screw head 12 to the base. Base 20 is adapted to sit on the ground. A hemispherical lid 30 is provided. Lid 30 has a peripheral recess 31 to engage over the upwardly extending circular flange 22. Lid 30 has a lock 32 to engage with the base projection 23 to secure the lid to the base and cover the securement means to prevent the base from being unsecured from the screw head when the lid is secured to the base. A key 33 operates the lock 32.
Base 20 is adapted to receive ground engaging pegs 28 to prevent the base from being rotated. The pegs 28 are angled so that they dig into the ground, if the base is rotated in the direction to unscrew screw 10 from the ground, to draw the base into the ground. Pegs are supported in apertures 29 in the base 20.
In use ground screw 10 is first rotated into the ground so that head 12 only projects out of the ground. A lever may be inserted into the hole 13 for this purpose. Base 20 is then placed over the screw 10 so that head 12 engages into the base projection recess 24. Base 20 is pushed down so that the downwardly extending peripheral circular flange 21 cuts into the ground, and the tapered pin 26 inserted through the pair of opposing wall apertures 25 in the projection wall and ring 13 in the screw head 12 to secure the screw head 12 to the base.
Ground engaging pegs 28 are inserted through peg apertures 29 to prevent the base from being rotated.
Valuables can be placed on the base and the lid 30 locked onto the base. The valuables are then safe.
If it is attempted to unscrew the ground screw 10 from the ground by unscrewing the base and lid, the pegs 28, being angled, draw the base into the ground.
The hemispherical shape of the lid is strong, and prevents the lid from easily being damaged by a hammer or the like.
It is envisaged the lid and base may be formed from metal or plastics.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
