Abstract

A rubber cap with two loops for attaching to the tip of a violin bow, or bow of other stringed instrument. The bow with rubber cap attached can be used to turn pages of music on a music stand. The cap also offers a degree of protection to the bow tip.

Description

DESCRIPTION TITLE: The FLIKIT page turner
This invention is an aid to page turning for violinists, violists, cellists and double bassists.
Page turning is an awkward and time-consuming operation for string players. It involves maneuvering the bow quickly into the left hand in order to free the right hand to turn the page, or, in the case of violinists and violists, holding the instrument via the chin rest to free the left hand to turn the page. Double bassists have to stand up off their stools to reach the score.
To overcome these restrictions, the FLIKIT is a simple small elasticated rubbery cap which can easily be attached to the tip of a bow by its two loops. With the Flikit firmly in place on the bow tip, it allows the musician to use the bow as an extended finger and flick the page over whilst holding the bow in the normal position.
The Flikit will come in two sizes: small for violin and viola, large for the cello and double bass.
The FLIKIT will now be described by the drawings on page 4:
Figure 1 shows the looped cap Flikit in three views - actual size.
Figure 2 shows the head of a string bow - actual size.
Figure 3 shows the Flikit placed on top of the bow - actual size.
Figure 4 shows the direction of the Flikit loops to attach to the bow - actual size.
Figure 5 shows the Flikit in place on the bow - actual size.
Figure 6 shows the total bow with Flikit in place - small scale.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS TITLE: The FLIKIT page turner Claim 1: A page turning aid for violinists, violists, cellists and bassists comprising a small rubbery looped cap attached to the end of string player’s bow, shaped accordingly to allow quick and easy attachment and detachment from the bow. Claim 2: A page turning aid according to claim 1 in which the rubbery cap when fitted, allows the bow to be used as an extended finger to turn the pages. Claim 3: A page turning aid according to claim 1, in which the rubber cap also acts as a protector for the tip of the bow when fitted.
